cv boot

just painted my brake calipers up and noticed the drivers side cv boot has a tiny split in it where it joins the drive shaft /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif, so thats another job to do this week.

Has anyone replaced one of these or know of the best place to get one from ???? ive done them on other cars can`t see the S3 being much different

Don`t be tempted to put a cheap universal one on, you`ll just be doing it again in a couple of months.
www.eurocarparts.co.uk is where i got mine from, proper job with new spring clip and big nut or bolt whatever yours has got. Don`t fill the boot with the grease - pack the joint with it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

I saw that my boot had sprayed a line of grease around the curved cover above when it was on a ramp having tracking done, and when I mentioned this to local specialist he said "yeah, they do that when hot, nothing to worry about".
Is that right?

If the boot isn`t `holed` and it is secure i wouldn`t worry about it, maybe a bit of grease seeped out from underneath the securing clips /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

I think there was a tiny hole very central in the boot, but it looked like something that was part of the boot design... I wondered if it was meant to be a pressure release of some sort after what the guy said on the phone.

Some power steering rack gaiters have a breather on them but defo no CV gaiters. If its a pin hole you can clean it and superglue it, but you`re only prolonging the agony and you may aswell replace it /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

That's annoying: I got my main work done a couple of months ago (new front shocks, inner wishbone bushes, 80k service, new MAF) and have/had no plans to go back until early next year at the earliest...
