Last Friday the temperature hit 20C up here. I was driving home from work and traffic was pretty heavy so I was crawling most of the time. After about 30 minutes of this, I noticed the oil temp gauge reached 260F (127C) which seems too high to me.
Obviously being in traffic the car wasn't getting the usual air flow through it, and it did cool down pretty quickly to about 220F once I got on to the open roads.
I know the 1.8T's run hot and I suspect an oil cooler wouldn't really help in traffic situations either but I just wanted to see what others thought about this. My coolant temperature remained at 90C the whole time.
Normally my oil temperature sits around the 190F.
For reference the car is a "Stage 2" AMK 1.8T running 280bhp. Not that I suspect that matters when you are crawling at 5mph through traffic. The oil is Fuchs Titan Race Pro S 5W-40 Ester Synthetic
