Basically my S3 was damaged recently by heavy hail, literally every panel is dented and windscreen cracked and back lights cracked, and as its going to be assesed by a body shop im guessing the insurance might write it off, just wondering how much i could break it for if i was to get the car back as salvage as part of the settlement

Bad luck mate, my brother had the same happen to his Leon CR and the Zafira VXR family wagon.
They're probably writing the Zafira off but they are repairing the Leon. His quote for that repair was about £1800 to include a new bonnet, dent master guy on the tops of the doors and roof, and fill/respray the bits he can't reach.
So, they may not write it off, depending on how much it's worth?
@Ste_Nova, some insurers try to describe weather as 'acts of god', but most fully comp policies cover all risks except war and terrorism these days?
