    Remap has found my boost leak, bless it :) Suggestions plz

    So I sorted the vac leak a few weeks ago and the car drove brilliant allthough I could hear the boost leak still. Which un mapped at the time It diddnt trouble me. But now I'm re mapped I notice the boost leak let's say er, alot more.

    The car was hesitating now and again and I could hear the escaping air which sort of went with the hesitating ie shhhhhhhhhhh = loss of power and gorowl no shhhhhhhhhhh = power back.

    So I decided to dive under the motor yesterday to finally do a visual inspection. Smic to pancake was fine pancake to rubber pressure tube ok but then pressure tube to metal charge pipe (think thats what it is) was pushed out to one side. Whoo hoo found the leak.

    I began taking all said pipework off and cleaned all components (pancake looks nice n shiney now ). I inspected the pipe that was popped half off and it looked ok so I put it all back together, re fitted the popped off pipe give it a light tug and all looked fine.


    Test time, I took it round the block and instant transformation smooth n great power delivery, then on the way back up my street (up hill) it started misbehaving again and heard ye olde shhhhhhhhhhhhh again.


    When I parked up I went under again and the same bloody pipe had pushed out again! So again I took it off had a good look, the retaining clip first, I bent that in so it had more tension on it, then I looked at the o ring which was fine and then noticed the lugs that the spring clip hold back look worn. I got a screwdriver under the lugs and made them more prominent.

    Re- fitted, drove, all ok, and then gone again ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

    By this time I would usually buy a new pipe but as some of you know i'm not in a position to do that, i have seen a fix (bodge) to this here : Boost leaks and Cable Ties: a guide - uk-mkivs but I think it's prob gonna get way too hot for the ties down there?.

    Do you have any other suggestions?

    Can you not just get a big jubilee clip to fit round and tighten it up

    No, on the end of the pipe it's a metal coupler which slides in to the metal pipe, the coupler has 2 lugs on it that fit in to 2 lugs on the metal pipe flush then the spring clip goes in the lugs to supposedley stop the pipe popping out so there is no where to use a jubilee.

    i believe this happens becuase either the clip, or the lugs that the clip seats against wear out.

    A friend had his ibiza tdi repaired by a garage for the same fault, they drilled a hole, tapped it and installed a bolt to hold the parts togther, and its been fine since.

    I guess you'd need to be sure your hole was well sealed though, or that will end up causing a boost leak itself :P

    I was thinking something along those lines, but like you say the chances of that causing a leak are quite high and it's something that cant be undone if it goes wrong = new parts which I cant do at the mo

    i was thinking it would be worth running silicone hoses as they are stronger but as you said mate you cant do the parts right now. tough one, drive it off boost like a 80 year old until you can afford the fix ?

    well if the hoses are damaged then you need new ones anyway, so trying a bodge fix with a screw isnt going to lose you anything, and might fix it.

    +1 for the drill hole and self tapper fix, done a few of them in the past, just a light smear of sealant on the screw before the final fit and it will be all ok, also, don't drill too close to the o ring seal.

    if you are too paranoid also get a small o seal and put it around the bolt when screwing in, providing you drill the correct size hole and thread it well it should hold the pressure easy enough though

    Had this problem every week for over a year, did a cheap fix using a silicone reducer on the chargepipe to rubber pipe which worked for about a month. Finally after looking on eBay with no luck decided to buy an AGU chargepipe from the stealers (which is the metal pipe your on about) and the AGU rubber pipe to go with it. Get some good quality stainless steel clamps and it's fixed it. I presume you have an A3 AUM engine code?

    Yup it's the aum, to be honest I just need a temp fix, i'm eventually going to be going silicone and fmic so that pipe I presume gets made redundant due to different routing.

    Depends on the intercooler setup you use i think, some people keep it some don't. plus, the only silicone replacement for the AGU rubber pipe has to be bought from samco japan which is very hard to get hold of. This is the type of silicone reducer i mean, you could always try this, it did fix mine for about a month or so:

    Happened to my remapped AUM last year, I stripped and cleaned the parts and then bent the metal tabs out on the coupler that we are talking about that grips the metal spring clip thingy, and it's been fine ever since. I have AGU charge pipe and standard hoses in my shed as I thought I would be fitting them soon after the repair lol. Any way paid £30 for the AGU charge pipe and hoses fro
