    S3 timing belt change.

I have had a good search and can't find anything covering this. Plenty on non s3 engines.
I am planning on changing the timing belt on my S3. It's a 2001 AMK and (please shout at me if I'm wrong) I think this has vvt.
I have done a few timing belts on older simpler cars but am guessing this is one more for the pros with the specialist tools.

Can anyone tell me how much they have paid or would expect to pay to have this done?
What parts should be changed in the process
    The obvious ones would be:
    Belt & tensioner
    Water pump
    Aux belt.

Do any of the vvt parts need to be swapped over or are there any common fails parts that should be done whilst access is available?

    Thanks all.

I don't think it's any more complicated than a non VVT car to be honest, it's only awkward because of the difficult access. If you've changed a belt before, you should be able to do this one?

I recently changed my belt on my AMK engine too, after constantly getting a fault code that led me to discovering the belt was a tooth out. I'd only owned the car a few weeks at that point.

I paid £90 for a Gates cambelt kit that included the belt, tensioner and tensioner roller. As you say, it's good practice to replace the waterpump and aux belt also.

I got a quote for the belt from several independent garages, and they ranged from £275 to £450, although the cheaper ones didn't include changing the tensioner roller and all said the waterpump and aux belt would be extra, as you'd expect.

Im not aware of any parts in the VVT system that should be routinely changed, although the cam timing chains can stretch or more likely the hydraulic tensioners can fail, but I wouldn't touch any of that unless it needs replacement.

ive been looking at getting this done recently and there is also a tensioner on the aux belt which i plan to replace aswell. the VVT is on the cam chains on the other side of the engine under the cam cover, ive changed the gasket on that as it was leaking but i havent changed the tensioner or belt (the VVT tensioners arent cheap)

i think i was quoted about £400 from a vag specialist place but i can't remember exactly and about £600 from Audi.

I'd never changed a timing belt before but did my APY carefully following a Mk4 golf guide and all very straight forward, taking 6 hours. I'm on my 3rd thermostat at 100k and for the sake of another £10 i'd change that while the coolant is drained. Tensioner comes with a tensioner pulley and there is a small idler pulley that you should replace too.
