Knock Knock.....

I have a 98 1.8TS with climate control and have noticed this morning (when I turned my radio down) that there is a disturbing knocking noise coming from the engine. On investigation it disapears when i switch the A/C compressor off..... any suggestions on what It could be before I get screwed at the local stealer???? Thanks

A wild guess, but it might be a worn belt for the aircon. I think I got mine replaced at about 65k miles.
Someone else may be able to tell me I'm talking rubbish of course.
