Is this a bit pricey? (bushes and cambelt)

    Hi All,

Had the old clunking sounds all over the place so dropped the car off to get the bushes sorted with a local guy and was a bit shocked when I found out the cost, mainly the parts.
A quick search and the lower front arms I'm seeing from £30-40 OEM! (the itemised price there is ex-vat)

I also got a quote for some other work to be done including the cambelt change which again doesn't seem all that cheap.
I called up a regular dealer and Belt and pump change was £520 inc VAT. (realise there's the brake lines, etc to be done as well)

I mainly went with this guy as I thought it'd be a lot cheaper than going to a dealer but not sure now?
Would appreciate some input here, maybe I'm just pissed I'm forking out more than two thirds the price of the car on repairs!

    Cheers

    Audi's aren't cheap to maintain.
That guy will be cheaper on labour than Audi.
Where is he supplying the parts from?

Yup as above i got a full powerflex bush kit for about £260 inc P+P off ebay so if you can get that lot fitted for under £200 your doing well and it will massively improve the handling of your car. Dont forget to also budget for a full wheel alignment after the fitting cos it will be well out after thay have taken it apart to fit the new bushes.

    Cheers for the comments.

I went OEM on the bushes because this is my commuting car and the roads around London are ****e.
I want the A3 to waft me on a cloud to work :D

He's is currently working from his house at the moment which is why the labour rate is so low, currently sorting a workshop though.

Don't get me wrong he's a great guy, I just was a bit put off with the prices for parts, after all it's just a Golf underneath!

He's based around Guildford/Woking, if you want his details PM me and I'll send them over.

The parts seem OTT to me.

A full contitech belt kit, WITH damper, is about 100quid, and hes charged you £220...

The prices all look like full retail Audi prices, rather than OEM.
