I need to get a little more from my set up... Vag V Jap !

I have a few mates with Honda's. Mostly turbo'd and i get constant greaf from regarding my "under powered lardy car"
Last night on my way home i was faced with... a about half mile straight with lights at either end . One of the honda boys had managed to find me and pull along side ...
A civic coupe with a B18 engine and a hybrid turbo from an evo. Stripped out to within an inch of its life... and me, In my lardy, fully loaded S3,
    So the challenge was on...
1st/2nd/3rd/4th... he made about 2 car lengths on me...
I need a little more, there cant be much in it ...
My set up is... Uprated engine 15k ago, Custom FMIC TD hybrid turbo. 3 inch down pipe and decat to a milltek exhaust.
Jetex cone filter N249 bypass Blue haldex...
Any ideas? About £250 in the pot

    Ha,
I know this , Its a long standing issue !
For the large part im too busy or out in my golf to worry about it.
How ever im enjoying the Slow3 at the moment. I realy wanted to carry things on and find some corners... But it was daft enough what we had just done. The car in question made a questionable 305 bhp on the dyno, My lardy car is about the same? it has dyno'd more but i work on an average and thats about 305,
Im waiting to hear of this new tip bill has coming out... i just want the impossible... more without a big outlay haha.

im sure bill will deliver a great product, but its not quite going to perform at V2 tip levels.
those tips are a hell of a mod for a standard ko4 car, so on a hybrid, it will be massive.
all it takes is for you to buy one to realise. go ooonnnn do it. then we can have some 'my car is fast' threads from you

Speedo readings would tell you my car is "fast" but it feels slow . If that makes sence,
Strangely all the Jap lads rib me about the weight of my car but always recon its about 350 bhp. IF ONLY !

A civic coupe is going to weigh as much as a paper bag compared to an S3, with B18 turbocharged power as well, it must shifts whilst on the move! I had to get to 3rd gear onwards to pull away from a DC2 Integra in my mapped S3 from a rolling start!

Got to admit the badger5 is a nice bit of kit! +19 odd bop on my car and -0.4secs of my personal best 1/4 miles time!!

You don't need more power for little money you need less weight for no money. Just strip everything out of it especially the electric heated seats, then you will narrow the gap for little outlay. Only problem I guess you will miss the creature comforts and the reason we buy an Audi and not a Honda !!

You cant go comparing 2 cars that have such a weight difference unless you have a huge power advantage.

Work out the power to weight ratio for his car, then work out how much weight you need to strip out to compete with it.

If you value your seats and comfort then you're stuffed but if not get rid of it. Each front seat can weigh up to 25kgs if it's a heated one

I think ive worded it a little badly.
I know power to weight he will beat me every time.
Thing is his has the same set up as about 5 other honda's localy so i encounter them alot.
It was frustratingly close. My "stage 3" set up is probably a little old hat now... im just looking for a little more for not massive out lay.
Im not stripping my daily to chase somebody but if i can change my set up slightly... im more than happy to try.

Just go and buy the 3" TIP. Welly proved just how effective they are on a hybrid. You could free up another 20-30bhp.

Who mapped that Paul? I'm sure standard injectors aren't good for a hybrid! I need bigger injectors on my K04 due to the amount of air flow I've freed up.

My car was the test bed for JBS's JBS 05 hybrid turbo,
So they mapped it, They did do a wright up somewhere on here a fair while back when it was done.
If i was to upgrade the injectors im guessing a full map would be needed?
Bill, It looks like i may well be intouch soon !

Injectors, TIP and a proper mapping session would be my first port of call tbh.

So much has progressed with these engines over the last 18 months performance wise.

Are you not able to contact someone at JBS and get their opinion/advise?

Why is nobody mentioned the XS manifold yet!!!!! it took welly from 300bhp to 344!!!!

Seriously though Paul, 3'' TIP will open up loads, an XS manifold will open up loads, but your current injectors won't be able to cope with either addition I don't think, as they must be close to the limit now.

As you say, your setup is good, by previous standards 3-4 years ago when they first appeared. To bring it up to date, it'd need a B5 TIP, XS manifold, and WMI to maintain the power levels.

If I think back to the logging I did before and after my rebuild it was the exhaust manifold and large port head that made the difference in airflow. I fitted both together so cant say which one make the most gains but my money would be on the mani. The large port head will allow you to run more timing which in turn equals more power.

Tbh if you've almost had then with a full interior and they've stripped it out, who's the real winner? B5, XS mani and you'll love it! And you'll go home playing with the climate adjusting your comfy leather seats and listening to your music whilst they bounce about and a drone deafens them and they constantly ave to adjust the heating and their uncomfy seats! - just saying

    What seats are these lads?

As for keeping up with your mate in his jap crap lol, if you were both strippeout it will be a even race.

Can't understand why you still have standard injectors on a hybrid though
    Word!!!

unfortunately for paul, its all or nothing i think.
if he's on standard injectors with a hybrid, even at 4bar, that is just mad, any other bolt on mods and you'l probably be maxing them.
TIP is the obvious choice, but will those injectors keep up.
i think you should bite the bullet and bring your hybrid build up to date with:
    B5 TIP
    injectors
    new mapping

and thats without mentioning the xs manifold, but that makes costs rocket with having to take the head off.
but id do those 3 minimum, you'l have an up to date hybrid car then, that rivals most others, and you will soon realise how much tuning these cars has come along.

An older model of OMP fixed back fibreglass seat. Only weighs 9kgs and is really comfortable. Did 150mile round trip and didn't ache once but where as most standard seats I'd get out and feeling like I've been bummed lol.

Majority are 9kgs to be honest. You do get the odd ones that are lighter like yours but most I've seen people commenting on forums seem to be 9. Still a good saving from 23kg standard seat.

Interesting, I thought almost all FG seats were lighter than that, my monaco Pro's with a steel frame were 10kg each, so I thought most FG seats would be lighter.

As you say though, still a big saving, although you do usually need to add back in 3-4kg for fittings and runners.
