Has anyone replaced theirs, mine is quite perished at the bottom?

How about upgrading to a shark fin style, not got Nav to worry about.

Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

If yours is anything like mine was the insides will be rotted to hell and causing crap radio reception. I replaced mine with one off a newer A3 in a breakers and the design had been changed so that teh electrics were inside the car rather than inside the base. it was a straight swap over and now my radio works brilliantly
