A3 Audi Chorus Stuck in Safe Mode

I have just refitted the Audi Chorus (Bose) head unit to my 8L chassis 2001 A3 1.8T (with AndyMac's clever de-Bose audio graphic flatline wire cut mod), only to find that it is stuck in 'Safe' mode. Can anyone advise how I can over-ride this or disable this function?
