Hi
as per title does anyone know of a reputable specialist to do a boost /smoke test near Sheffield Rotherham area As I think I may have a leak as it seems louder under boost and less power than it was, sure It is no me getting used to it as sometimes it seems ok but a lot of the time it does not feel as punchy

I was going to ask the same question mate as I was wanting to get one done also. I'm gonna have a look round and try find one. Let me know if you find anywhere good. Where abouts you from?

Have you tried Statller? They are on Attercliffe road in Sheffield, a lot of guys use them for tuning and although a Porsche specialist they also are very knowledgeable on all things VAG

To check the boost cuircuit is quite easy. But a full smoke test is a bit more of a pain.
I checked mine myself and found a couple of leaks at joiners . sorted them and the car felt miles better.

Presurise the boost circuit by disconnecting the boost pipe from the end of the hard boost pipe. plug it up. Remove the hose from the throttle body and fit a plug with a tyre valve. Pump the system upto 2 bar max and use a spray bottle with soapy water in to find the leaks.

Cheers for that will try them as I work Sheffield live just of M18 j1 if they are used to them a standard boost test will probably do the trick
Then it was just I was reading abouth the smoke test on here

my mate works at JP autotech swallownest and does these i believe.... ask for James

Hi I was wondering if anyone knows of any places in Birmingham that do smoke tests? Thanks

I was just about to suggest them.

I recently broke down as my alternator failed and the breakdown guy from Kiveton recommended them. We thought it might be just the belt so I rang them on a Saturday morning about 10 and the guy (John I think it was, is he the owner??) said no problem to drop it off and he'd order a belt. Cracking service I thought a my normal garage couldn't get a belt that quick. Anyway turned out the Alternator had gone.

When I picked the car up Monday they done the Alternator and belt and had also replaced me a cracked pipe and reset the fault code I'd on for a year (previous owner said it was just the mapping). Anyway car is like a rocket now compared to what it was and I wished I used them before

I had a quick chat about smoke testing etc and he said it would be about £80 for a smoke test and diag

:( just realised this was a revived thread lol

Thats ok... he has revived three threads asking the same question... :)

I don't know of anyone in Birmingham but Badger5 who are just off J13 of the M5 (Gloucestershire) and a stones throw away from Brum in a diesel have a smoke tester... its one of Bills most used bits of kit... other than the dyno :)
