hi all, i read a post on here a short while back while my car was at the garage and at that point didnt think it would be significant to me, turns out it is and now cant find it, turns out my car is now doing the same thing.

The post was about the car over reving when at high rpm changing gear. Basically when your at high revs and go to change gear quickly the car sounds like you still have your foot on the accelerator. I can assure you i don't, i can kind of solve the problem by taking my foot off the accelerator completely waiting a second or two changing gear then planting the accelerator again. This however defeats the object of a quick gear change. I dnt always drive the car like this, but when i want to it would be good if the car let me!

any help, tips, advice, or solutions would be greatly appreciated!

nice, appreciated. Any ideas on cost? how much for switch, how much to fit? is it a common fault?

Cant remember cost, think mine was around £12 but dont quote me on that. You can fit it yourself, cant remember exactly how but its fairly obvious when you look at it, its mounted just above the clutch pedal. Yeah its a common problem... the ecu uses the clutch switch to detect it dipping and drops the revs, if its faulty, it does get the signal in time, and it over-rev's

nice, will have a look 2mo after work see what i find and get one ordered see if it works. Take it you had the same problem then? Will be well happy if its an easy fix, just had to sort quite a few things that have cost a fair wedge. cheers for the advice, will put another post on here let you know how i get on.

new clutch switch bought from audi, problem solved! They have bought out a revised clutch switch that looks nothing like the old one but should stop further issues in the future...i hope! cheers for the advice.

Anyone want to give a brief " how to" on fitting this clutch pedal sensor please!!!! Jbl would you let me know how much and how difficult and if possible give me part number off your invoice??? Would be much appreciated mate.

Hello.
Im new here and have just bought a 2001 S3.
Im having this same thing and was told by a mate that he knows somebody with a TT that does it too, so i assumed it was just how it was.

How much does the switch cost from Audi?

Would love to get that sorted!

mine does this too.......i thought it was just my ****ty driving haha!! awesome. really love this forum for posts like this!!!

£15 on ebay. Worth getting one from Audi?

Make sure it's a real one. TPS might be slightly cheaper than Audi.

Also when I replaced mine I found that the plastic stopper (the bit the switch presses against) was missing from the pedal assembly so I also had to buy a new one of those. Only a few quid though and it just clips on.

The old design has a ratchet inside it so you might find that just pulling the end out could save you 15 quid/5 pints. On the other hand, it might be shagged.

Who are TPS? Haven't used them before.

Cheers

Just under £15 and they have 2 in Stock near me.

Cheers

£15.81 from Audi and its in stock and much closer to me that TPS.

Fitted. Seems better, but i took it off and drove to Audi without it on at all, and it drove better than when i fitted the new "developed" one.
Does it really need it?

Hi mate sorry been offline for a while due to moving house, havnt got a part number but the part was from tps as others have mentioned on here, i run my own busiuness and have been working 7 days a week for a while now so took the car to my mates garage and let him fit the part. I thought as soon as i drove the car that the problem was sorted, however since being in the car a bit more i've found the problem is def better but still not completely gone. This could me being a bit ocd but i still think its there a little bit. Need to see if theres anything else that could cause this issue i think. Anyone got any ideas??

Well I can second what you have said exactly, fitted new one from tps was easy! Followed instructions from on here to fit it.

Now at first seemed better but now last night went out and it seems worst than before! It's so annoying ........ A annoying fault like this would make me sell the car , you can't drive it properly.

So, does it need it?

Jim, I'm so annoyed with it I'm going to take mine off and see what it's like ......... I have the " new improved " one and after driving it yesterday I think it's worst, so I shall be ringing tps and getting a replacement or refund..

My mate (Who works at Renault) say it works on a loop and taking it off stops the brake lights from working!
Does anybody know if this is the case with the Audi?
I can check the lights, but wondered if it did anything else?

Mine does this too, been reading up on this and it mostly seems to happen to amk engined cars, mine is amk, is anybody else having problems with a different engine code? dont see why it should matter really but it just seemed strange. I might disconnect mine tommorow and see how it runs and if it effects anything else like cruise control with it off

Got to say, mine is better with the new sensor, just not as good as without it.

had a look at mine because it has been doing it since my clutch pedal snapped. The only thing i can think (after 2 new sensors) is that where the pedal snapped it has bent the m/c rod ever so slightly which could be causing it? Because the return of the pedal is then shortened and never fully engaging the switch?

Going to home brew a solution and get another new switch and see what happens :icon_thumright:

looking through my service history my pedal has snapped and been replaced in the past too.

it may be worth just getting the lower dash panel off and having a look at how straight the rod is or isn't just in case there is a theme.

and just to say mine is an APY so not just the AMK engine codes doing it lol

I will have a play with it today and see if i can work out what the crack is. I will take it off the car and rev the engine and try and replicate a gearchange and pull or push the rod and see if anything happens, worth a shot ey

Hi

Have you guys got this plastic stopper on your clutch pedal? My clutch pedal broke and was fixed (before I bought the car). I found my switch didn't work - and that I had no stopper when I bought my car

If the pedal is badly welded back together then the stopper will not attach properly.

I got used to compensating for the over-rev and took me a while to get unused to it.

ive got the stopper yeah, ive just removed the switch and had a bit of a fiddle with it, pulled the pin out and thought il fit it and see if this fixes it, SNAP! ended up breaking the little black plastic lugs, it still fits in nice so i will give it a go and see if its ok.

I found it a pain to get the switch in, at least they're not really expensive. I used VCDS to test that mine was/wasn't functioning.

Liam

Mine is bam engine and still does it after trying to sort it all day.

But I have noticed that it slightly increases or holds revs without clutch use I.e just letting off the gas peddle at higher revs!

Well I've changed peddle sensor, checked all boost, vacuum hoses, checked plastic stop plate and driven in all manners of driving and it still does it. Drives me insane.

I'm going to bite the bullet and take it to specialist this week.

after having a go trying to sort mine ive just ended up making it much worse. Whats the correct way to fit them?
Pull the plunger out all the way fit then release clutch? i did that with mine and it ended up being worse than before
