Purest! Lol, your engine must barely resemble a 1.8T now! Love it though, hope you break 600bhp :-)

A little update on the noise coming from the pulley

Its seams a bolt from behind the crank pulley had worked its was loose and was scrapping the back of the pulley

A simple fix and its back on the rollers for a bit more work today as i popped in today to fit a better T pipe that i made this morning for the dump valve back into the tip

Paul is a bit busy today mapping a Drift Skyline this morning and he hopes to do a bit this afternoon on mine

There was talk between Paul and I about 550bhp. Yes i'm sure 630bhp can be made but that would mean running max boost

TFSI have the same crap rods as 20v's... they just aren't of an age where they have started to fail... they also suffer from coking up of the inlet valves from not having fuel pass over them, injector size is limited to the largest ones available to std production cars as they are special... they also rattle a bit on idle and have issues with the high pressure fuel pump drive...

That said... they are responsive to certain mods and yes you can get 'more' power for your money as such but its relative... its a 2ltr stroker, the turbo's are larger, its fuelling is more efficient etc... so from that respect they are good and the Mk5 chassis handles better than the Mk4...

Converting a 20v 8L to a TFSI imo is a bit of a task as you would need the ECU and all the other gubbins as the MED9 is far more complex an ECU than the ME7 due to the funky fuelling system of the TFSI... personally I would stroke the 20v and whack a GT3071 on it... but if you want a TFSI engine tbh you may as well just buy the whole car as its arguably a better all round package... and thats from someone who loves his 8L ;P

    Hello Andrew,

Looking at the circuit diagram, pin 63 on the ecu is a wire to the lamba after the cat, or is this wired else where on a narrow band??

    Thanks

    More bad news

The engine seams to be leaking oil into cylinders 2 & 3?

Rings were changed in jan from bore wash, valve steam oil seals done at the same time?

It did make 440bhp but at 1.9 bar which isn't that good because of the oil leak

Argh. nothing but bad news for you it seems Andrew! did the pulley issue get sorted before this oil leak happened?

Oil in the cylinders will be absolutely killing the mixture, so power figures are a bit meaningless

Had a similar issue with Welly's at one point... the seals appeared to have lifted themselves up... maybe I didn't push them home as well as I thought when rebuilding it but it smoked like a good un for a bit... think it was the exhaust seals though...

Not good news Andrew, are you leaving it with them? anything to do with the total seal rings? i am booked in tomoz but if yours is still with them i might have to postpone?

Bill.. Used the head gasket you recommended

Tuffty.. It could be the seals we don't know?

Dave... Not sure if it is the total seal rings?

You are using ARP head bolts? have you re-tourqued them after running the engine in?

    Sorry to hear this mate

Sure you'll be able to sort it all out and have her fighting fit in no time

Don't mean to sound stupid but is there a way of telling how much oil is getting into the cylinders besides the obvious sniff of exhaust fumes and seeing the smoke?

Any of you willing to elaborate on how much cash pound notes you've sunk into these s3 to get 500+ bhp out of them? Oh and don't worry , I won't tell your partners!

I've not heard good things about total seal rings personally... Ran them years ago in a valver.. they wore out very quickly.

Whats next then? Head off (again) and rummage around inside to try and see the cause?
