    Engine bay cleaning

Hi ya Peep's yet another question !!

Do any of you guys clean your engine mine is pretty clean apart from some oil build up around the dipstick area, the guy who had the car before me had it changed and i think (and hope) it due to that. i wanted to clean this all off to determine if there's any leaks. It does'nt leak on the ground where im parked but on a little inspection today i found a drip hanging from the sump close to the sump plug.

    Cheers Peep's

Get some auto glym or similar engine degreaser and spray it very generously around all your bits and jet wash it down. Be careful not to soak your air filter or spend too much time around the electrics and remember... ALWAYS LEAVE YOUR ENGINE RUNNING! Otherwise you'll never start it afterwards lol

    I use this:
Meguiars Super Degreser - Clean Your Car

And then pressure was the engine bay making sure I cling film up any plugs, done a few cars now and never had any issues with starting etc.

    I then finish with this:

hmm tricky with the engine on which is recommended however i would cover ABS sensors unit those are f'ing expensive, alternator and coil packs for sure just dont let water hit them or the drive belt.. that's what ive been told

I'd do it very quietly, so no one realises that you're using a jetwash during a hosepipe ban! Unless you've got it fed from a waterbutt, which I'm sure you have. I wouldn't worry about covering the alternator, just don't spray directly at any of your electrics if you can help it.

I used washing up liquid and water, with a tooth brush to get into the tight spots. Degreased with autoglym tar remover. Then dressed it with Autoglym rubber and vinyl. The instant tyre dressing can be used to maintain the inner engine bay paintwork. Got some pretty good results.

Nice one guys ! i was gunna cover as many sensors and coil packs as poss and wd-40 the connections . degrease it all and give it a scrubb with a soft brush and hose of. the main area i want to clean is near the oil filiter and dip stick its really bad the bloke who serviced it made a lot of mess. if i do it with engine running does the above ive wrote sound good to go .

    Cheers

In my opinion, not that I know much about cars, I wouldnt recommend putting a hose pipe under the engine. Most of the seals on the electronics etc on these old Audis are perished anyway and I think its just asking for trouble.

Just get in there with some fairy washing up liquid in a bowl with an old tooth brush and get in all the nooks and crannies. Then i used an old rag with some autoglym tar remover to get some of the more stuck on crap. Its all about elbow grease. Dressed it with Autoglym rubber and vinyl.

Looking good. Usual wipe down every week with your wash and it'll stay clean. Autoglym rubber and vinyl brings the hoses back to black a right treat!

How much can you clean a car before it becomes an obsession? My neighbors think im mental. I love it when my 10 year old car looks cleaner than 60/61 plate cars on the road

A clean car is a happy car.

I get usually get "I have another car to do when you're finished" from my neighbours.
End of the day you are looking after your pride and joy, and no one likes a filthy car.

Lol at the neighbours comments, so so true. ...its also nice when they comment on what a good job you've done.

I particularly enjoy the admiring glances from passers by and girls checking themselves out in the reflections.

Beware of evil envious onlookers though, some people don't like the fact you take pride in taking care of your car.
