Can anyone tell me what this part is?

Can anyone tell me what this part of the coolent system is so I can source the gasket/oring to fix the coolent leak, its the housing that is bolted to the engine with 2 10mm bolts and has a sensor within it

Car is an A3 8L 1.8 non turbo 1998 Sreg

I thought it was the themostat housing but i think that may be near the dipstick

Coolant temp sensor is there on my s3. Situated in a plastic elbow...which is also leaking coolant on to gearbox

thats it looks like it tees off to the heater matrix

Just hasd it in bits only to realise i have the wrong gasket

shame its half hour drive to my nearest audi

Anyone know the part number for the oring? I think the GSF part number is 179VG0310 but cant be sure

Think this is going to be another trip to Audi

Try a vw dealer if they are closer, normally cheaper too.

Admittedly for a s3 but got mine from Gsf this week and was £5.90 +vat for the housing and o ring (there housing usually get brittle and brake up) where as audi wanted near double that
