VAG code scanner handheld

Has anyone tried the cheap handheld vag readers? for example....

found lots of information on the pirated cables, but not much on these. Just want something cheap and cheerful, that I can learn on for a couple of months, for when I buy a full rosstech...

A mate of mine tried one of these on my S3. It acknowledged the car but wouldn't connect to the ECU or diagnose any fault codes. It wouldn't even acknowledge his M5. We did have some success with a mates 307 but that was about it. He got his from eBay but it looks the same as the scanner in the amazon pics. Someone else on her may have had better luck with it though

As Blackie says, buy cheap, buy Twice. Buy the proper cable to start with and you wont regret it. Yes, its more expensive, but pays for itself in the long run. Valuable tool to have and fully supported by Rosstech. User NHN on here has a group buy going on atm so nows the time to treat yourself.
