    Thanks Jim.

Does the lid get in the way of your arms when trying to lift a cup out?

Sort of. Mine tends to stay in the upright position or just rests on the tops of the cups.

To be honest, it better than most cupholders than I have come across and certainly one of the most stable.

The only issue, for me, is the fact that the S3 is quite a narrow cabin and my elbows like to use the armrest alot which means, when there are coffee's in it, that changing gear isn't the easiest.

It's a tidy extra though that doesn't mess up the dashboard. The only other cupholder worth having is the side mounted passat twin cupholder from the late 90's which screwed onto the passenger side centre console. The only problem is your passengers feet when it opens to hold coffees and i question it's regidity. Kind of works like a plane seat serving tray with cup support.

    I know what you mean.

I use my arm rest alot.
The joys of driving an auto, my left arm does not do allot really, just stays on the arm rest flapping in the wind. lol
I do need one though. I got no cup holders in my car at all and the 3 on the glove box lid are crap.

The cup holder does fit B5s as well.

Have been tweaking my map and am back on the rolling road this friday for what will hopefully be the last run for a while. I'll post when i have the finalised run.

In the meantime, I'm now looking at steering wheel options and footrest modification.

Have picked this TT footrest ( 8N2 864 891) up on ebay:-

I'm obtaining a costing for a steel engineering company to professionally trim the steel footrest into the shape that will fit the S3 8L's very narrow one. The TT's is much much wider and cannot be made to fit nicely without trimming pretty much the full length. I'm then hoping to affix using the same fixing bolt and use a strong adhesive to hold in place.

S3Dave had been looking at doing something but this will provide a match with the TT pedals in situ. I'm after professional finish and hope that this will work.

I'll post pics when cut and on.

Yesterday was cruise control and facelift steering wheel install day.

Old wheel and standard indicator lever.

Wheel off, airbag out with new cruise control arm in. The new footrest modification also quite apparent.

The facelift wheel in. Really nice actually...was suprised how much better than pre-facelift and much thicker towards base of the wheel. Also stuck in the obscenely priced S3 emblem into the wheel. It does look nice and new though as a result.

    Completed

Also decided to strip the material offf, spray the gauge pod/surround a matt black to match the cabin and dash before refixing. Think that it looks cleaner and much more subtle like this. The surround of the gauge itself just flows better into the pod with much less colour contrast.

    Ok...so it's been a while.

I have entirely finished the car now with all performance upgrades including brakes, suspension, transmission, engine bay etc...in place and i'm v.happy with power/performance and handling.

However, I wanted to put a few little finishing touches in place to put a smile on the old girl and address some niggly issues that have been doing my head in for 3 years or so.

So...i started with the headlamps and bought this from ebay for about 20 quid. I then followed the instructions to a tee by grabbing a spray, some tape a power drill and got the following results.

    The Kit:-

    Scuffed and scratched before:-

    After:-

I have to say...for the sake of a 20 note and 20 minutes work, its probably the best bangs for bucks facelift you can do. That and the lcr splitter.

Here she was later that night, rocking the double yellows outside the local chinese.

now...the dash cluster display. fading...but with almost 140k on the clock and now almost 13 years old..she's needing a lift.

What a ball ache though. Normally costly and coupled with the fact that vehicle won't run without the cluster in place means that repairs are not normally carried out. The fact that Audi want a king's ranson to repair also means that this is normally avoided.

I sourced a few places bbe reman etc...who i have used before but found these guys:-

    CARTRONIX
    Unit 4 The Parkwood Centre
    Aston Road
    Waterlooville
    Hampshire
    PO7 7HT.

    Hours:- 8:30am to 5:30pm.
    Landlines:- 02392 265986 / 02392 241412
    Mobile:- 07425 621583
    Email:- sales@speedorepair.co.uk

and they did this to this while i waited.

    Literally took 10 minutes.

I must admit that i drove down but worthwhile trip. Paid 99 inc Vat. I unscrewed and popped out the cluster and left the car in the visitor bay. Guaranteed for 2 years aswell.

I can't recommend highly enough. Comparable to brand new off of the manufacturing line. I was gobsmacked. Saw a friend use the kit and bought it next day. 20 mins work to restore 13 years of deterioration.

Decided to revisit the number plate and surround.

Had to sacrifice the vorsprung Dutch technique logo on the plastic plate but you don't know until you try.

i know that shes dirty but im still not sure about the results...

I'm genuinely tempted to get that done on my track car too, we have random beeps that occasionally happen on track, it's not usually a problem as I'm used to the car and dead screen, and can usually read what it is, often ABS warnings due to the inside rear wheel lifting.

On a sunny hot day though, you can't see anything at all, and Dad can't read the warnings at the best of times.

A fix would give me some peace of mind for sure. Might give them a ring.

Frankenstorm hit Bristol and I parked too near a main road. The car looks like its been in a rally now and caked in muck.

A fix would give me some peace of mind for sure. Might give them a ring.
They can do a repair by return of post service. About £99. It just means that the car will sit in one spot for 48 hours.

It's all in the thread with photos. 3m kit off of eBay. Videos on YouTube about it. All you need is a drill battery/mains powered. Clip on the attachment. Sand down to varying levels, buff with cream provided and water to keep cooling. 20 mins for beautiful lights.

Went to badger 5's dyno day a few weeks back and it was clear something wasnt right.

I recall about 273bhp average and about 234lb torque, which for the spec im running, was pretty poor.

I knew the map was not complete but the dyno confirmed the way it was driving with peaks and troughs of power. Essentially, it looked to be a mapping issue and was running lean low end and with too much fuel top end.

Today we added Bosch 480 injectors and adjusted the map with fueling adjustments. Without running in the car and allowing the management system to recalibrate, we did 3 runs that all showed increasing bhp/lb figures in a much more linear map than a few weeks ago.

    This was the 3rd run.

Going to pop back next week, when I've run it in a little but it already drives much like it should.
