Rear diff earth strap snap.

I have a 2002 S3 and have the classic problem of the rear earth rusting off. The one that goes from the rear diff to the chassis. Went to Audi to get a new one but they cant find the part, classic Audi, really helpful. So my question is what happens if i just leave it off, its been off about 3 weeks no with no errors or light flashing...?

I had this, replaced it with an earth from halfords. About £5.

I'm not sure if the heldex will stop as I don't think the early ones even had one but it's just as easy to make your own out of 4 gage car amp wire and two ringed crimps, solder the ends on to if you have a good enought soldering iron.
