Hey, I have a squeeking, creaking noise coming from the front suspension of my car- I searched this topic and the verdict seems to be the anti roll bar/ bushes are the problem....

Will fitting powerflex bushes sort the problem or is it likely I will have to sort the roll bar too....can i just try lubriucate the bushes or something and see if it helps?

And will this happen again with the 18s....I don't think i can take any more problems with my A3- so far I've had to replace temp sensor, thermostat, had wiring checked, had to have the dials out, windscreen replaced, tracking done, and now this squeeking problem and the door open warning problem in the heat....someone help!

I had arb bushes replaced at about 65k miles and it got rid of the creaking and made the car feel much better at the front, like it "sat up" more.
It didn't last all that long though - I still get creaking again now, but not as bad. I got standard bushes not powerflex or anything. At the time it felt much better.

GOOD post mate as I have just started getting the same thing on my S3.
car has done 54k now and it happens when I go over speed bumps and does it all the time now!

luckily I have a warranty so it is going in soon to get sorted as annoying.

going to get them to check the gearbox selectors at same time as get crunching occasionally from second to third!

might as well make the most of the warranty while I can!!

thanks for your post and help

Replacing your bushes with OEM ones will be cheaper than going for the Powerflex ones. I think I paid around £100 for a full set of Powerflex front bushes including the dog-bone mount. This was in a group buy from JBR and didn't include fitting. My bushes were knackered when I bought the car so I don't know whether they offered an improvement over the OEM ones. The Powerflex ones should last much longer but I don't think I'd go for them again, except for the dog-bone mount which was a great mod.

MingBlueMagic...

can you elaborate as to why you wouldn't go for them again? I was thinking of getting pretty much every bush on the car replaced if my car starts creaking again, I assumed the powerflex ones would solve that!

mine does this too and makes me take the scenic route on most journeys to find smooth roads hahahahaha !!

i hate the noises and creaks from the bushes!
approx. how much labour would be involved from a specialist to get them changed ??

i reported a slight squeeq on my S3 at its first MOT and they just lubed the top of the schockers. Anyhow the slight squeek has gone (only really happened over speed bumps).

was just talking to a mechanic (used by Audi) and he seems to think that the drag link arms cause trouble and that its not expensive to sort....he said he'd have a look tomorrow- he's going to put it up on a ramp so i'll hopefully have info to share with all of you on monday!

i have this noise also, after service at dealer they told me front arb needed replacing as the worn bushes are fixed to the bar, however the bar and bushes are cheap, i was told around £60 for the bar, but you need 4 wheel alignment as subframe needs dropping to fit arb.

i thought i may as well change front and rear for H&R, should stop noise coming back plus better cornering. AB

I think an S3 recall is due with the amount of people that have experienced the dreaded "creak". My S3 included - with just 25k on the clock. The ARBs and bushes were replaced under warranty though, but so many people are having to fork out if the warranty has expired.

I wonder how long this set will last before the creaking starts again?

It's a pain in the ***......

The problem I have is that the bushes were well shot when I bought the car so I can't say if it made a huge difference over standard to have the Powerflex bushes. I paid a fair whack to get them done - over £100 before fitting, which was probably 2-3 hours worth - but I have no idea if it was money well spent. In others words, maybe I could have used OEM parts to reduce the cost as anything was better to what I had originally. I guess the Powerflex bushes will last much longer, but long enough to warrant the cost, who knows?

just to mention- i'm getting someone to look at my car on tuesday evening (couldn't make it friday) so i'll post up any useful info i have then (if i have any!) ....
