Sorry if this is in the wrong section mods, please move if required. (posted in this section as I'm an 8L owner)

Had the S3 serviced at Unit 18 in Milton Keynes yesterday and just wanted to give a write up on their service.

Now I know a lot of you wouldn't bother to pay someone to service your car given there age now and work involved but I've got to the stage in my life where some jobs are worth paying someone else to do, plus I like having a stamp in my service book. I had a major service undertaken so oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter, spark plugs, haldex oil and filter, and inspection. The price for this was £144 for the main service and £90 for the Haldex service (£234 inc VAT total) all using OE parts. Main Dealer prices for comparison are £299 for main service and £159 for the Haldex

Ali who runs Unit 18 is an ex master tech for VAG, and the service he provided was brilliant, admittedly my car was'nt ready at the time he said it would be, but this was no issue for me, and I'd rather the job was done properly than rushed and bits missed. There day hadnt gone so smoothly with other work on that day which had led to the delay. (It should be noted that it is only himself and another ex VAG mechanic running Unit 18). There also very capable of doing more than just basic servicing which is obvious just from the various track cars he has in the workshop (one being his own 200SX)

Verdict:

Will be using again to undertake some work identified during the service, and will most likely use for all my future servicing work. If you're close to Milton Keynes and looking for a garage you can trust, is very experienced with all things VAG and is very reasonable on price then I'd happily recommend Unit 18. I use to use The TT Shop in Kempston, who had also given me a great service over the years (although others have criticized them) but there prices are almost identical to main dealers now. It should be noted that Galleon Wharf where unit 18 is located is accessed by the road next to the Galleon pub and at present isn't in the best of conditions (be careful if your in a lowered car) this is set to be repaved soon and better signing in place.

Im sure he`ll greatly appreciate the kind words :) Fantastic guys. Done work for me and all my mates go there for basic servicing up to ground up track car building. Just finished building a friends S14a track car, in the process of finishing an E36 328 with E46 M3 engine track car, his own S13, a TVR Cerbera 4.2 > 4.5 conversion and Leon Cupra R all ready for when we go to Bedford Autodrome on the 26th of this month.

Jamie who is the other technician used to work for Palmer motorsport so has that experience behind him also.

GMBodycraft next door run by owner Gary Morgan is also a fantastic fabricator and all round bodywork expert building rally cars to having various Fords and so on featured in Retro Rides. He does a lot of the fabrication for Unit18 and is an FIA approved fabricator to give you an example of the work he can do. He only just recently made my seat rails for my bucket seat and fixing points for the harness. GM Bodycraft

Was looking at using another specialist in MK as i am in Luton for the same things but this is £45 cheaper and they were not even replacing the plugs. Are you sure this included the plugs? Also do you know if they can do 4 wheel alignment?

Its hard for me as i am weighing up whether to just get oem parts and fit myself, keeping the receipts as history or to get someone to do it and get book stamped. I am a qualified mechanic but working on train gearboxes now :)
