Well, as you read it, I can't lock my S3. I bought it knowing there was an issue with the boot lock but foolishly I didn't check the locking of the other doors. Only realised half way home that I couldn't lock the drivers door with a key and the central locking doesn't work!!! I've asked the seller and he states he was able to lock the doors so think he's being a bit sly but anyway.
When I put the key in the lock it turns slightly clicks and continues to turn not locking or unlocking the door, possibly something not connected?
Clicking the key fob nothing happens, had a mate look at the central locking etc and at first he just thought it wasn't connected properly as there was an issue with one of the connectors to the pump however that's sorted now and when I am in the car I can click the lock button on the drivers door and it locks the 2 front doors and opens them. But the fob does ****** all.

Anyone got any idea's?
Help appreciated.

Either the key is foobed of the receiver for the central locking is foobed. Take it to a vag specialists, sure they would be able to sort it?

Is there a way I could check either of these myself? Where is the central locking receiver situated?

Incase if helps it's a 2000 facelift s3.

I'm not really too sure about where it is to be honest, someone on here will know where the central locking module is. Do all the doors lock by using the key in the drivers door lock?

have you changed the batt in the remote ?
have you tried to recync the remote to the car ?

Nope can't lock the doors with the key in the lock, as I said I think something is obviously not connected as i put the key in turn and it clicks and keeps turning so doesn't actually do anything? checked the battery voltage at timpsons the other day to see if it was the battery's and no joy they are full the fella said. by resync the fob to the car do you mean in the ignition by pressing the buttons? I'm not too sure on the sequence although I did try it. In the manual it says about in the car lock but since I cant actually lock the car or unlock it using the key that one is null n void I would have thought?

So you can't lock the door by turning the key in the door? You can just spin the key round and round?

TDIQ - that is correct. When I am in the car i can press the door lock button that locks both front doors and that works fine and locks the doors. just cant lock/unlock the doors from outside.

Sounds like the rod between the barrel and lock has come off or snapped even. Get the doorcard off and take a look and it should be obvious what part needs replacing.

Had it off today and couldn't see heehaw, if I can sort the central locking then that will be good enough for now. Anyone have any idea's?

I agree, get the barrel off and take a look, you shouldn't be able to spin the key in it! I had a similar issue a few years a go when i was breaking mondeos over the holidays (don't laugh, but was an easy £500 a day if you picked the right car) anyways they guy was selling it because someone had broken in and smashed up the outside as well as what he believed to be who ever doing it put a flat head screwdriver in the lock to try and break in.
The barrel looked okay from the outside but span the key when you tried to use it, the mech inside had fallen to bits and i noticed the key wasn't able to be pushed all the way in... Just put your key into the boot barrel and compare how far it goes into the lock compared to your drivers door (unless all barrels have been foobed).

Metromaster - I can get the key in fully but seems like it turns to engage something then slips past. If I could find a diagram of what I'm meant to be looking at it would help!!!
Going to try get my mates mate to run VAGCOM on my car to see what it throws up about the central locking?

If it's just slipping past still might be a dodgy barrel, if VCDS doesn't throw up any codes might be worth taking it to the stealers / car locksmiths, they will be able to tell you what's wrong pretty quickly. First stop VCDS if you have access to it. I've never had to run diagnostics on central locking before so not sure what codes/if any will be thrown up..

Yeah going to try run VCD's, think mate of mine has access so he will hopefully hook me up! The stealers?? haha what are they commonly known as?

Does anyone change your central locking pump??? If so you may have one which is not supported with fob. Worth checking what the part number.

My mate ripped the door apart and it's a dodgy barrel, any way I can sort this? Or is it a case of new lock and key from a breakers??

depends, my mate had a barrel go on his punto and he just called up a locksmith that dealt with cars and it was fitted the same day... not too sure if there's anything special about these barrels? No point getting a new barrel from a breakers, youll have to change all the barrels? no point...

Hopefully someone could clarify but thought I would just change the one lock, therefore needing obviously the compatible key for that lock, but once I get my central locking working I would only need this key for a back up incase my central locking plays up?

Don't think it works like that. If I was you I would call up a specialist and find out what you can do about it, not sure if the barrel is just a standard barrel or has any sort of sensor in it?

probably the central locking mechanism control. It's the whirring noise in the boot area. Left hand side behind lights in the left panel. Part number on the unit if probs and replacement. It's the same control unit/mechinism that links windows/internal lights and central locking amongst other elements. Can be bought on ebay but will need reprogramming to link with keys etc... VAG will charge a fortune for all this. Might be better finding a Auto electrician who specializes in VAG cars.

Had the same things happen to me not very long ago.

Hope this help.

Cheers Jim, Everything works fine except the fact I can't lock and unlock the car with the fob mate. No issue with any electrics or lights. The pump is working fine as using the buttons in the car I can lock and unlock all doors. Could this still be hooped?

YEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAA
I somehow got my central locking working today haha. I found a sequence on ehow yesterday so thought I would try it today, started it and thought it didnt work so didnt even finish!!! so i went into the shop came back out and for some reason pressed my button and it was working!!!!!
