Need a clip to fix your headlight self levelling system ?

In a word...........YES!
The clips arrived today, now although i havent got them fitted yet or the facelift headlights, i did get the headlight motor and pushed it into these new clips and they are a perfect fit. Tight to push in but are very sturdy and wont break in my mind, its also abit of a pull to pull um back out but they wont break as they have 3 slits in them so are designed to be pushed and bent abit.
I'll get some photos up tommorow so you can all see what im trying to do but i would say these are "proper job"!

Just so everyone knows what we are on about here... this is the clip we have in our headlights..

They screw to the headlight assembly sat on a keyed post...

This is what typically happens to them...

The fitting of the Landy ones looks to be a pain to fit as the post the Audi clip screws into is a single screw fitting and centred through the socket of the clip so remains to be seen how well they will work...

Personally I will be holding out for Steve to sort these out if he gets around to it

Same crappy plastic that goes hard over time bud so I would imagine the issue would still exist... don't know if the prefacelift lights are the same style clip though...

Hi folks,

Firstly apologies for not giving any updates sooner, I have been seriously snowed under at work lately and not had a chance to even get on this forum let alone work on these more.

I have been let down by one of teh companies I was going to use for the prototype, the problem is I need to have one made up to test before I place a batch order and im being quoted silly prices. I had managed to get it down to £30 for the initial one off but as I say, the company have since stopped responding to my emails.

I will try and put some focus back onto this for you all as my second clip has now failed as well so its something I need to do ASAP.

With regard to them fitting pre facelift, the answer is NO the clip is a completely different design. However once I have done these ones and everyone is happy I would be happy to look into doing the same sort of thing for pre facelift people as I can lay my hands on a pre facelift clip from the local breakers.

If the prototyping is a bit more expensive I don't mind paying another quid or two towards it.

just so i'm clear, are low pointing headlights a sign of this broken clip issue?

my reason being, my S3 has clearly had new springs fitted... how do I know? because both my auto headlight adjust sensors were snapped! (obv they didnt disconnect the linkage when removing the springs!)

ive since replaced them both but headlights seem low pointing... unless they need resetting in VAGCOM?

But I wouldnt be surprised if my headlamp clips were broken aswell!

Headlights need resetting in VCDS mate... once they have been reset they find a 'centre' and you adjust the headlight aim in the normal way... there are various causes of droopy headlights (fnarr!) the typical ones being damaged sensors (as you had), dodgy headlight motors (typically this is only one headlight at a time so easy to spot) or not been reset in VCDS... broken clips normally are a result of trying to sort the dodgy motor problem as the plastic goes brittle and the minute you try and remove the motor to sort it they break...

This 'should' work...

Hi folks,

Ok we are moving again at last, I have had a PM from a fellow S3 owner who wishes to remain unknown at this stage. He has kindly offered to help provide a couple of test clips based on my revised design. I am currently re modelling the clips and will be sending the files to him shortly. Once we have the test pieces made up and I ensure they work I will be setting up a paypal account to allow the people who are after a set to make payments.

Once I have the payments taken I can place the order with the company who are going to run off the batches and they will then be shipped to the numerous members !

If you remove your electric head light adjusters you'll find this little white piece of plastic. The end of the adjuster is a ball. When you insert the adjuster, before you rotate and lock the adjuster into place, you have to manoeuvre the ball to one end to slide it into the clip.

Well found Karl ! I am still waiting on the prototypes of my redesigned clips being made, shouldnt be much longer now but part of me wonders if there is any point if these renault ones work ?

Steve, the main factory was on shutdown and we found out the material order was only signed off by purchasing dept today! I hate purchasing depts.
So material expected end of this week, maybe early next week.

After that it'll be a day or 2 to make them + postage time to you.

I will continue with getting the proto parts done for you but this new find may mean you reconsider whether going for a mass production order. I guess see what the consensus is on the forum and what price the mass produced ones are...

To be fair the Renault ones look similar to Steve's design but with more material removed; so less robust I imagine. But having never seen an original clip I can comment on how much stronger the Renault ones will be over original. They may be well up to the job.

yeh I think we will still proceed at the moment and see how things go I still believe my design will be stronger and last longer.

Personally I would prefer to fit something dimensionally the same as an OE part... I can see the appeal of the Renault part especially as its cheap and available (when OE replacements for the VAG stuff wasn't) but providing Steves part is a direct fit I will still part with the cash for it

I can confirm that my part will be a driect replacement for the OEM one with no modifications required.

the above renault ones are robust, its a very hard plastic, more so than the oe audi ones.
the design is much better too, rather than the crappy square oe clips.

only downside, as tuffty and many more of you will want something direct fit straight away, is the renault ones need a little tab on the back sawing off (you can see in the second pic the freyed bits), and also a 2mm hole drilled through for the oe screw.

the ones i sent out id already done.
i only had westy get back to me but he can confirm they went straight in no worries.

the option is there anyway, and its a good one.
