Fixing Rear Number Plate

Hi all, I've finally got round to transferring my private plate onto the S3.

I can't really be doing with with drilling the holes into the new plate, so I was going to use the sticky pads that fancyplates supplied.

Has anyone used adhesive to fix their plate, especially on the back where the screw holes are quite raised?

Are they liable to fall off?

I've used strips of adhesive before.

Just make sure they run vertically and not horizontally if you do. If they run horizontally the water that gets behind the plate will sit on the joint and eventually make it fail, by running the strips top to bottom it allows anything caught behind to escape.

Eventually the adhesive will give though. I used to have a black A3 and after acouple of years the tape gave up on hot sunny days.

Kev.

"Are they liable to fall off?"

you got to be kidding.

I had to replace a front plate damaged by a stone chip and it was an absolute b*****d to get off.

these things stick like poo to a blanket.

i couldnt get the backing residue off at all. in the end i stuck strips in different places and covered it with number plate once again.

On this car, ive left the dealer plate holders on. makes an easier job if i need to replace.
