S3 2001, engine very hesitant during acceleration.... helppp!

okay, new member and new audi owner and having some issues with my S3.
When accelerating, the car feels very hesitant as if it is missing. I get up to around 4000 revs and the car just doesn't wanna give me any more, i then let off the accelerator and hear a little pop from the engine then once i get back on the accelerator it lets me continue through the rev range but still very hesitantly.
I ran the car on a VAGCOM and got back a that knock sensor 1, signal too low: P0327 is showing up as a fault. Now the day before i also ran the VAGCOM system and saw Fuel erin: Bank 1 (add): system too lean: P1136.

Is it possible that by replacing the knock sensor it will correct the engine running too lean??
Also does anyone know the location of knock sensor 1 on an AMK engine?
Any help will be much appreciated, thanks a lot

lean missfire through the inlet mani perhaps, is your car mapped?

Sorry to thread crash however My s3 has identical symptoms. Crank case signal intermittent and also mentions retarding ignition on intake camshaft??Car was Recently remapped.

Well I've bought the car recently and was told that it has been mapped but not 100% sure as didn't come with receipts or anything.
When i did the VAGCOM that showed the fuel running lean it also showed "engine control module incorrectly coded: P1612. But this is no longer coming up. Would this mean that the issue could also be down to a dodgy re-map?

I think my fault code was crank shaft sensor intermittent (signal implausible). Intake camshaft retard point not set. Codes were cleared and these two came back after one run.

However on a run mine displays identical symptoms, refuses to pull above 4k revs and hesitates throughout the entire range, almost like she's starved of fuel??

Pulling my hair out however cars now at local VAG specialist being looked at :-/

Yeahhh mines got the same sort off issue. I'll get to 4000 and then just very hesitant. I believe it is fuel starvation aswell but... ahh i dunno lol.
If you could let me know what the VAG specialist say when you get yours back it'll be of great helpp !

Good move taking it to a VAG specialist - I had similar problem few years ago and after I spent £££ changing the MAF, sparks etc I then dropped it off to a VAG specialist and it turned out to be the fuel pump! Be interesting to see what they say about yours - keep us posted hope they find it the problem.

when i had the codes you've got, it was the crank speed sensor on its way out. I dont recall it stuggling through the rev range though. mine was temperature related.....when the car warmed up the crank sensor struggled and the signal faded......so the ecu got out of sync with the intake sensor.....hence throwing up the cam sensor code.

when this happened, the car went into limp home mode.........eventually the crank sensor gave up on the M2.......tow truck time.

is yours going into limp home? (EPC light)

No engine management light at all. Doesn't limp, just hesitates constantly, throws up fault codes tho..

lean... weak fuel pump sounds plausable..
I found this on an S3 when loading it on the dyno whilst logging afr's... Instantly confirmed the suspicions.

Seems people always assume too much.....always check fuel delivery first.

(advise from my dad - on my first petrol power remote control car...happy days)

Fuel pump certainly sounds very possible. Diagnose by measuring fuel pressure. Then I log various lables within the ECU to see what is happening inside, and why.

After doing some searching around i found out that the garage who replaced my alternator actually ripped the wire straight out of my knock sensor and thats why it had the issue. After soldering the wire to the connector and got it all hooked up the car is now driving smooth with no more hesitation :D!!!

Mines cured also, again it was a faulty knock sensor, car couldn't read engine speed etc...

On a big plus note RSD have also fitted my V2 Badger5 T.I.P, the only downer is I don't pick up my car until tomorrow morning :-/
