3" down pipe and de-cat...............is it worth it

    hi guys,

picked up my latest s3 a few weeks ago and im back in love with it but my question is this....

it currently has stage 1 jabbasport map, and a cat back blue flame exhaust.

i deal with blue flame and can get the 3"down pipe and decat for not a lot of money but is it really worth doing.

would i then need to go stage 2 map etc?

    thanks
    in advance

    martin

A custom map/tweak to existing map would arguably be better for you.

Stages, in my opinion, are a bit of a nonsense and more a marketing tool.

Turbo's are about airflow and a 3" downpipe would offer significantly more mid range torque and a great improvement to standard downpipe which is hugely restrictive. One of the best bolt ons but an a*se to fit due to prop shaft.

You'd also benefit from a fmic to reach higher 'stage' classifications.

    Hope this helps.

    thanks for the input guys.

i would probably get he 80mm intake pipe anyway.

teh price ive got from blue flame includes them fitting it too.

eventually i am going to get the fmic as well.

i agree with the mapping i would defo just look at getting it set up with more flow etc.

DO not even get me started on down-pipes and prop shafts.

The absolute drama i had getting by "apparent" fitted de-cat to my 1.8TQS was the biggest drama i have ever had!

Hammered, welded, cut shaped, just to fit around the prop because some idiot on ebay didnt list it properly as NOT being for a quattro, even though the listing said it was. Didnt accept a refund - so im stuck with it.

Get one that fits 100%, pay it, and be happy/

A free flowing exhaust system will also reduce exhaust gas temps which hamper these engines performance. The main restrictions are the exhaust manifold and the DP.
