Stacey's Belated Yo Yo Build Thread

The return lines are usually equal or sometimes smaller than the feed as some of the fuel is consumed by the injectors and the fpr acts as a restriction

There has been some cases where the return can't flow the amount that can be supplied and this will create uncontrollable fuel pressures

There's some that run -8 feed with -6 return with no issues and think bill is running this iirc?

Think I may just stick to -6 if I can find a -8 oring male to -6 male adaptor in the UK as not been able to find one this side of the pond

I was going to say, if you have more fuel going back to the tank then you've got an awesome engine, you'd never need to fill up! You'd be giving fuel away haha

Just get fittings from abroad, they're dirt cheap in the US. I'm sure over there, like here, you get ripped off for fittings.

I mean, they're probably not as good as some LCRs but still...

Stacey's Belated Yo Yo Build Thread

Cheers mate but the brakes are a tad over budget lol although they do look sexy but I'd also want a car attached to them for that price

Will have to order the parts from the states I reckon, as got to order some adaptors to go from oem lines to AN yet anyways

I may just install it with the current set up for now (044 inline and standard fuel rail) to save on some ££ and see how it holds up?

Stacey, have a chat with Bill if you haven't already... he did all the calculations for fuel line size on the Ibiza...

IIRC the oe fuel line size is fairly capable but not sure what the cut off is, you want to keep the return fairly similar else it could 'add' fuel pressure if restrictive especially at idle etc..

You checked eBay? I got most of mine from there. Aeroflow/Speedflow/Earls etc, all much of a muchness. I ordered some Fragola AN -10 hose today for my new breather setup. Meant to be pretty good but all I could think of was fraggle rock.

Have now sent an email to speedflow to see what they come back with but if all else fails I will have to get them from the states

Here's a link to some on summit racing

    http://m.summitracing.com/parts/sum-220167b

Have had a look on eBay and in various uk suppliers online shops and can't find one to just click to buy

Am going to get my hands on a mk4 washer bottle and see how much room that frees up as I don't need the windscreen washer pump (although am currently utilising it for the intercooler spray which I'm not fussed if I loose)

I ideally would like to mount the surge tank under the bonnet but the spare wheel well is an option but I do like the security of having the spare as have had to use it a couple of times

I used Summit racing for my new air/oil seperator, they ship out quick but they use iParcel who're a little ropey apparently. I should get my bits from them soon so I'll let you know.

To clear one thing up I didn't know that fittings with the flare on the end still have the same dia and pitch thread as there straight cut o-ring designated counter parts and only need an o-ring fitted to them to be used in this manner so this means there's plenty of fittings about I just didn't know could be used like this....(hope that makes sense?)

I've been having a browse about at oem looking boost gauges that read a bit higher than the stack as may be needing the extra range because everywhere I keep reading says that this turbo is designed to and needed to be run at higher pressure ratios to get good results due to the design of the comp wheel? Would also feel more comfortable being able to see if it is boosting much higher than what it should do?

Anyhows I would ideally also like to run an AFR gauge and oil pressure

Ideas were to use a steering column mount like Andrew

Possible make something to go in the cubby hole below the stereo, on top of the dash above the central air vents and even considered mounting them on the A pillar?

I did stumble accross this very OEM looking gauge solution which looks quite interesting and although is dear once you factor the cost of a reasonable AFR gauge I don't think it's to bad?

Well was really hoping to get my brakes sorted but my pads havent got here yet

Heres a pic of the setup bar discs and pads

Hopefully my pads should be here start of next week then i can have some brakes that can be used aggressively again

Caught up with my friend who helped me build the engine thats in the car currently and talked about our cars....as usual

His build is looking really quite interesting with some different ideas so thought although not related to mine i'd post it in here and share it anyhows

The car is a celica gt4 which hes trying to get almost as light as possible without spending stupid money on carbon fibre etc, hes even gone to the length of removing the underseal on the chassis to bring weight down, he will be running a K27/K26 hybrid to start with then will be putting an EFR on there

The main bit that interested me though was that he's having throttle bodies on a turbo charged car??

Throttle bodies on a turbo engine is nothing new, An old friend of mine did it about 15 years ago with his Fiesta Turbo
Mountune ( The guys that built Fords Rally engines ) also fitted them to the WRC Esocort cosworth and Focus WRC engines

Its kind of a strange sound also but i was told they can be a bi*ch to map

Shouldn't be any harder should it? Getting them balanced might be tricky though with the plenum on. Looks like there's vacuum ports on the first picture though. They were standard on RB26's I think.

Yes they are standard on RB26 but most are swapped to a single T/B when they get to a level of tune.

I have no idea on mapping them with ITB's but was told by my mate 15 years ago it took longer to map?

I'm not entirely sure what his plan is but know he's going standalone and said he's going to map it on an engine dyno

I'd just never heard if ITB on a turbo car but I am pretty new to engine tuning and modding

Funny you should say about mountune as I used to walk past them every day as a kid to school lol

I was curious about that and when asked he said its an idle control valve but can also be used for anti lag as i think it would be difficult on dbc...when he explained it, it all made sense but had never seen or heard of anything like it

The only problem i see with your mates set up is that he is using spun aluminium trumpets. I have seen someone use them on a turbo engine with over 30 psi at the plenum he ended up bending/crushing the trumpets from the force of the boost hitting them. That was are theory anyway so we swapped to some cast ones like i have in my plenum

Bloody hell that sounds mental being able to distort and break trumpets through boost

Had planned to change my brakes over yesterday.....I got cracking on the task at hand but had completely forgotten that I had cut down the carrier bolts for the 18z caliper carriers so wasn't able to fit the 996TT calipers I could have gone and got some cap head bolts for work but they'd rust badly and not something I'd wanna do and forget about

On a plus note I fitted the discs which has made a massive improvement as can now use my brakes again

You can really see the quality difference between the semi 2 piece oem discs and the cheap EBC ones.....cheers for sorting them out jase

Have to say I think I will miss the 6 pots as they look rediculous lol but the 4 pots are quite a reasonable size

Couple of pics of the coolant flange finished

Fitted to the block with an old cts

I've bought lots of alloy piping for the charge pipes as should hopefully be doing as much as possible in hard pipe

I've gone for 63mm hotside and 70mm Coldside and am planning on replacing the elbow directly off of the cooler with 70mm but this will need some shaping adjustments to fit in the bumper gap and to match the cooler which is 63mm thick

Am hoping that these calipers will perform better by using a smaller pad (although still pretty large) making it a bit easier to get heat into them, the 6 pots do look bit on the large side suppose like the 19's do but the inner child loves them

I do keep looking at dropping to 18's and possibly will do in the near future

Cheers Dave that was my hopeful plan as am on my 3rd plastic one now

Although the main reason for it was so I can use AN fittings with stainless braided hose to the bulkhead as was concerned my wastegate and mani may just melt rubber hose?

Have been doing a little thinking and have come up with a couple more ideas for the surge tank

Could relocate the expansion tank to the passanger side fitting the surge tank in its place and re-route the coolant lines one of which already originates from that side next to the head in the plastic fitting that goes to the rad and the other will just have to weld a hose tail on the coolant hard pipe that runs round the block

The other option is to fit the surge tank on the passanger side but will be PITA to route the fuel pipes over there avoiding hot things?

    What's your guys thoughts?

Had considered mounting it in one of the original Smic locations but had been worried of it being vulnerable in event of a crash, but looking at Karl's link it looks like I may be a bit more protected than first thought?

May be a bit of a squeeze with the washer bottle there but it's another option I could try and work

there may be a possibility you could put it on top of the chassis leg, i cant remember off hand what goes on and around there.

It's all rather tight round there as was having a good look this afternoon

I've got a mk4 washer bottle coming from a friend at a scrappy as when was measuring up the IE inlet vacuum take off and IAT are mounted right where the boost pipe runs so hopefully the smaller bottle should give me some room

It's bound to rain all week now if you're doing work on your car. I remember last year...

Yeah it would just be my luck, but this is **** or bust as been told a moving date is start/mid June so got to get my arse in gear

Here's the forecast although it tends to lie in the typical English way

Have booked this week off to really crack on...although think I'm still going to have to go in for a shift or 2 which may slow it down

It's getting closer to possibly doing that but am more concerned about the safety side now due to the little one as could never forgive myself if the worst should happen and believe it or not the s3 is our main family car lol

I may just see how the 044 copes inline for now with AN line to the fuel rail from the oem connectors as am quite set on keeping the spare and to be honest I've run out of money and braided hose is bloody expensive lol
