I think tuffty ran 8's for a while and decided to change back to 7's, so perhaps he'd be the man to ask

    Cheers mate

Am Kind of hoping for a response from tuffty or bill as expect they will know more from experience as I would of probably just chucked 7's in but really don't have a clue as what level should be starting to look at 8's?

    Cheers guys

Will start with 7's and see how they go?
Is there any particular ones you'd reconmend for the target power level? Prefere the idea of NGK's after having a Bosch one disintegrate on me?

I have had intermittent cold start issues that were related to the 8's... I used to use irridiums but needed some 7's fairly quickly and opted for NGK BKR7E's.. (copper)... price difference was £7.50 for 4 vs £27 for 4... I only do 5k a year in the S3 and change the oil once a year... if the plugs look fecked after that time then I'll change them every year...

Cheers guys ill get myself some NGK 7 irridiums, pretty sure this is what I'm currently running in my car at the mo....or it could be platinums?

On another note I have eventually become a dad at 8:30 last night to a little girl weighing 7lb 14oz.....suppose I've got to start being more sensible and grow up a wee bit...but the project will still continue on

Well last night coming home felt some rumbling and vibration coming through the car and steering wheel which was hardly noticeable at lower speeds but was very aparent between 60-70 and when pushed to 80+ it shook the car to bits, so took it easy and limped home

This morning i checked the obvious to see if bolts where loose anywhere or weights had fallen off of the wheel but didn't find anything so next step was to get the balancing checked but whilst sitting in traffic LUCKILY heard a bang..... front passanger tyre had burst!!

So to get me out of trouble i had to put the rear passanger alloy on the front and the space saver on the rear which luckily still clears with the 30mm spacer that im running

Popped down to the old mans as my other wheels are stored there to do the swap

The tread of the problem tyre

Suspect that a pothole could have maybe influenced it but not really sure how it happened to be honest as drove best part of 60 miles on it last night to get home after it was aparent something was wrong

Just a couple of pics to show the difference of the sidewalls on different tyres as both are 225 wide on 8J rims as have been looking for some different alloys for the AD08's but bit unsure if will get away with 7.5J rims? (as loads keep coming up in scooby fitment)

The AD08's are extremely square where as the conti sport 5's look almost stretched when looked at from some angles

Also following recent discussions on rear discs and pads checked mine whilst the wheels were off and theres quite a lip already and nearly half way through the pads after <1 year and probably 8-10000 miles

Tried to show the wear but not the easiest thing to get in a photo

Also checked the fronts for good measure and they're a bit more worn than i'd expected as at first hardly seemed to wear probably due to the size of the pads and the surface area of the friction material but suspect will have to shop for some more pads in the new year

That was a close call Stace

As for rear brakes, I think mine need a proper good bleeding! Oh and you'll be lucky if those pads last till the new year considering you have an open pit lane track day coming up.

So far on the road I haven't noticed any difference between the DS2500s and the ferodo road pads I bought this time round. Next weekend will tell I'm sure!

Contact EBC and see if they want to develope some blue or orange pads considering a fair few people use the Cayenne calipers these days. Seem to be quite good at doing new stuff for people and reports of orange pads seem to be alright from what i`ve read.

I had yellows in the a4 and they weren't amazing but didn't really test them in back to back hammering tbf.

My only worry was because of how square they are compared to other tyres? Foe instance the Toyo t1r's I used to have were a very rounded profile on the sidewall and just was worried about them bulging over the sides?

I had red stuff when I had the standard brake set up on there and didn't find them to bad, the main problem I had then was just kept cooking them turning the disks blue and getting brake fade but that could of been that the standard set up just not up to the job?

Well little update.... some bits have arrived....hopefully got the lot now?

Big thanks to Jason S who has sorted me out all the oem bits including the crankshaft at a brilliant price

Its supprising how much more flimsy the thinner headgasket feels as have still got a new original knocking about to compare and iirc there is only 0.4mm in it? Will measure when i get a chance

    2.0tfsi Crankshaft

Got loads of pipes etc for the tip and chargepipe but heres a shot with the 102mm pipework up against the 51-63mm turbo outlet pipe and an iphone to compare size

Sump all welded ready for the gates to be lockwired on

Also i had to pop into work to sort a few bits out and when i returned i found out one of my best friends had popped a present round for the baby and it did really make me chuckle so had to put it on here

    Pedrosousa and Munch like this.

Haha, love the top, my missus is currently looking for the same thing for our little one, ha. My mate bought us something similar when our little girl was born, he's big into his mk1 astra's so had one printed on a baby grow.

top work on the car though, can't believe you only live a few miles away and I've never seen this car. Look forward to seeing the finished article

Hopefully next week....my managers given me the go ahead to do it in the workshop at work but it is at my own risk and a lot of people have got access which I'm worried about, so am hoping will be able to slide it off of the engine stand and lock it in one of my cupboards

Only downside of not being on night shifts any more like when I done the last engine I could really crack on during work but this one will be done as and when get some time

One things for sure I won't be ripping the current one out until I've done the Bedford trackday on 3rd of nov

thats really good of your manager.
its good you can build this one whilst still running the car too, expensive, but handy.

Stacey's Belated Yo Yo Build Thread

Definately bit dearer but is so much more convenient would certainaly recommend doing a build this way

My current engine will be getting a mild rebuild (main thing is block will be skimmed) then it will be for sale as well as the turbo kit minus haywards downpipe to try and recoup some costs as everything in my build has done around 10K so loads of life left yet

Been skim reading your thread as I left it at page 7 last time! Great work though! Lots of stuff though ey? Just to clarify, your using the gtx30 with a different housing? I'm just gonna use the bluddy thing and hope it fits.. Of course badger 5 will have to work his magic 8-)

Stacey's Belated Yo Yo Build Thread

    Cheers mate appreciate it

Original plan was to fit the gtx3071 in a compact comp housing with a hybrid t3/K26 hotside housing as should of fitted with my current downpipe and manifold but once I discovered the downpipe wouldn't fit as was different hole spacings from Mani to downpipe I decided to change the lot, as had reached the end of my tether with this current set up

So aim was to make it more efficient and hopefully much much easier to work on....v-bands ftw

As it stands now turbo is same gtx with the compact comp housing but am now using a tial .82ar turbine housing with TSR top mount Mani

Plan of action is for bill to manufacture the downpipe and map, will go from there, am hoping it will spool quickly and be very responsive after seeing James LCR which has steered me towards a very simular setup as already had a very simular turbo and (have to admit I have missed the k04's response)
