    Clutch question - 150 & 180 Interchangable?

Hi all, lets just start by saying my car is actually a 2002 Golf GTI with the 1.8T AUM engine and 5 speed box.

My clutch is just about dead (riding through 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th) So I have been given a Flywheel, Clutch and Pressure plate from a JPX 1.8T 180 I believe with a 6 speed box. So the big question is, will it fit?

If not, what if I got the 6 speed box from the Seat Ibiza and all other parts required to use the 6 speed box would that fit on to my golf? (I know what your thinking, just get the correct clucth but this clutch flywheel and pressure plate is virtually new and I wouldn't mind a 6 speed box )

    Thanks

6speed box is poo compared to a 5speed mate, get a g60 flywheel and a vr6 clutch and away you go. Any reason you want a 6 speed for?

I don't believe it will fit, different part numbers.

Also, Euro Car Parts list different clutches.

Well they are different PN's but that doesnt mean it wont fit.

What matters is the input shaft spline, overall "height" of the clutch/flywheel assy with relation to the transmission, and starter motor ring gear pitch and position.

My A4 has an Audi 80 TDI flywheel, a friction disk from a S4 4.2 V8, and a pressure plate from a VW LT van. I had to have the flywheel redrilled to take the pressure plate, but otherwise it has the correct critical dimensions and works perfectly.

A quick check of a handy clutch catalogue suggests the 6 speed clutch has 23 splines on the input shaft, and the 5 speed has 28, so its almost certainly not going to fit with 5 speed as is.

There may well be some combination of parts that will work, but you'd have to have both units sat next to each other to make the relevant measurements etc.

The man has a point. I was pretty sure they wouldn't fit as I did look into an A3 5 Speed SMF for the S3, but no go.

Thanks boys, so what other VAG engines could I get a clutch assembly from? The place that gave me it for free will replace it with something else, they love me

But obviously I want something that will hold the power of a mapped AUM, and maybe more for possible future turbo upgrade (280ishbhp)

Ok so a g60 flywheel is the same as a golf ABF one so plenty of those to be had, aswel as the vr6 clutch being very common but not sure of all the cars its on, or a valeo clutch kit from car spares, still a single mass conversion and will see you upto 260-300ftlb of torque thats if you want to go smf?

Sorry for being a little slow, but what o you mean by AFB? The engine code? If so what engine is that? VR6 clutch, is this the same as the 4motion, or just VR6 from mk3 golf and corrado?

SMF or DMF it doesnt matter to me, I just want to get back on the road now, the parts are free to me the only one "we know will fit" is from an AGU but the clutch looks like its done at least 70k so this is why I'm trying to find out what other variations there are.

    Thanks

Have a look on ebay and type in the above, and the vr6 clutch could be from a corraday or a golf but not sure on the 4mo thing. And yes ABF is the engine code of sorts, and a single mass is cheaper and better than a dual mass fly, carspares, gsf, euro car parts all do a smf conversion for reasonble money, about £190 from memory. Quiker and cheaper than putting a 6speed in .

VR6 CARBON KEVLAR CLUTCH + G60 LIGHTENED & BALANCED FLYWHEEL - GOLF GTI TURBO | eBay

Seen that, this is what I will get if I can not source a decent used one at my friends vag breakers yard.

Surely theres more than just AFB engine code that runs same clutch/fly set up though?

What is the benefit of a lighter flywheel?

OEM clutch for that power will be 100% fine.
