It is very common to fit the newer shape 8P wheels or TT wheels to the 8L, the main issue is the audio controls etc, and the 11 pin bolt which holds the wheel to the spline.
By "let down" how do you mean? My wheel is on almost 200K and still looks great, are these the pre facelift leather wheels or the facelift ones?
