must have the worst luck going!! overheating :(

well i must be cursed!! had the car at c and r enterprises the other day to have my car vcds read....came back with a few fault codes and had the throttle reset. no other major codes realy. but taking the car home it felt like a new car, boosting right, not sluggish at all, nice and smooth! thought that my luck had changed for the better. but no i went to pick the missus up from town last night and took a steady drive (about 4 miles) everything seemed ok! then when we were quite litterally 100 meters from her door, the temp shot straight past 90 and i got three beeps, a red light on my dis and a yellow one on the top (for those who dont know, my dis screen is blank as clocks been tampered with by previous owner.) and then the coolant popped the tank cap and shot its load all over the bonnet and engine bay. i switched ignition off and rolled the car for the remainder....but just looking for an opinion of what it could be? any help would be great, im at my wits end now if im honest.....the a3's are lovely and id like to keep mine, i just think ive got a ringer of a car tbh....if its worst case scenario then engines aren't overly exspensive are they?! Water pump stopped working so coolant wasn't circulating?

Probably due to pressure. As coolant would of been boiling like a kettle. When was water pump last changed?

I'd get a cambelt and water pump service done ASAP then if your unsure. Local indi Audi specialist should do that for £300
