Just interested really as in setting up the amd group buy im coming across loads of different ones

i have the 210 version and mine is AMK

but thats about as much as i know.

i think BAM is the 225 but need clarification

Engine code AUM is what you need for a UK sourced VVT and DBW car

All S3s are VVT and DBW, but the VVT system differs. APY are mechanical VVT, AMK and BAM are electrical operation of VVT

The easiest way to tell if you have a drive-by-wire throttle on your Audi/VW/Seat/Skoda is to simply look for an 'EPC' (Electronic Power Control) light on the dashboard when you turn the ignition on. All A3s from facelift MY01 have DBW but not necessarily VVT.

To tell if VVT when looking into the engine compartment from the grill, look to the right side of the engine block and there'll be a black cylinder mounted. This is part of the crank sensor. The sensor itself is on the other side of the engine.

Hi dont know if this is the correct way to ask a question but here goes, i have an 98/s reg a3 1.8t, the gearbox has just died on me, the trans code is EBN, however i am struggling to find a replacement with the same code. I have found 2 boxes from 1.8turbos with the code: EBD does anyone know if they will be compatible, i have phoned my local audi dealer but they didnt seem to know!!! Or does anyone have any ideas as to where to send it to be refurbed, i am in the northeast of the uk, cheers

I was sold this as a 225 BHP car. Have I been done? I guess my Service Schedule Book is what to go by...

Ive just had the same heart failure..... somebody in a previous thread mentioned, look in the spare tyre well, there should be a sticker, if this reads 165kw, then its a 225 BAM engine.... from what ive discovered recently, the BAM engine came out approx aug-sept 01, so i would imagine the overlap would be approx 6 months.....

Cant imagine you'd have much of a case of miselling, unless you've got the advert.....id be prepared to foot the legal bill tho lol....never know though, you might get a chip fat service (complimentary of course )

It was a private sale and being 225bhp was never a major deal. Plus they all remap the same and I read somewhere that AMK's are possibly a bit stronger than other codes. I soon got over it.

I went to buy an Air filter the other day and got chatting to one of the salesmen and according to him both the AUM and AGU engines have the same turbo??!!

Is the AUM easier to remap than the AGU? WHat other advantages should and AUM have over the AGU.

I too have AJQ engined A3 Quattro Sport (1999) which is drive by wire .. i've also been told, but have yet to verify! that if it's DBW it will have the KO3s turbo installed and not the basic KO3 which would be fitted to an engine with a normal cable, as a result it can be mapped beyond the normal 195 BHP and up to a Possible 215 BHP, however i need to strip off the Turbo inlet pipe and count the number of vanes to verify it's an 'S' unit unless anyone knows of an easy way ??? How big a job is this ?
