Altenator belt tensioner jumping up and down.

In regards to my last thread on here I replaced the alternator pulley as it was stiff and was making some horrible noises. This is now fixed thanksfully . However the belt tensioner still jumps up and down a little when the engine is running.

Is this a major problem? Will a new one fix the problem?

Hi, I had a similar problem on my Tdi 130, problem seemed worse at idle. Replacing the tensioner pulley fixed the problem hth

Apart from jumping around, was there any other problems with it? I bought a new tensioner in case the alternator pulley was ok but don't know wether or not to put it on or return it.

A bit of movement is normal, the belt will be stronger and weaker at points and will require more and less tension. Not unusual at all.
