    Question GSF or Genuine Audi?

    Hello all,

Last september i had some issues that caused the car to go into limp home mode and eventually complete engine cutout. This turned out to be the engine speed sensor. I replaced it with a friends spare (on loan) but now the time has come to replace with new.

Audi charge £107inc vat for this part; GSF charge £38 (not sure if that includes vat or not).

I am sure the GSF will be a pattern part but i don't know what to choose.....what are your thoughts? better to go genuine for this sort of thing?

(BTW i was stung by a pattern thermostat that just wasn't the correct thickness to seal properly..........so i am a little once bitten twice shy at the moment).

    What do the masses think?

Really depends... GSF sell kit from the same OE suppliers as VAG use so there will be times you will get a part thats essentially the same but less the 4 ring logo and VAG part number...

If its a Bosch or similar sensor then it will be a good one anyway although nearly 70 quid difference (while not unheard off on some bits) seems a lot...

I assume you mean the crank position sensor? ths is typically a Bosch part... ask GSF if its a Bosch part... if it is then you can't really go wrong...

Also worth noting if you have a TPS near you, they do genuine VAG parts, but a bit cheaper, and you can walk in and get them without necessarily being trade.

cheers for that input Tuffty; I called GSF......its just in a plain bag.....no markings on it at all.

Surely Bosch would have at least stuck their name on it if it was theirs. Leaning towards the genuine Audi part myself as i wouldnt wanna get stuck on the road and have to get recovered again!

    Damn dealer prices.

Cheers Nilz - just had a chat with TPS and the retail price was £2 more expensive than dealer..........but luckily i work for a tier 1 supplier so he will set me up as trade and push the price down to £78.95 inc vat. for the genuine part.

so for that i can justify not going to Audi.

    Thanks everyone for your help!
