Forgot to add that the clutch does happily handle the power and never had it slip whilst driving but it just simply isn't grabby enough to do launches when youve got a decent level of grip, hence the hot spots from it slipping when attempting to do so

A single mass flywheel will only really chatter when the engine is labouring ie (high gear low revs)

Thats the same clutch Bill has in his Ibiza race car... prob a bit overkill for the road (and a K04)... the plate itself weighs as much as a flywheel!! lol

I was impressed at the prices considering I always finde Awesome GTI stuff very expensive.

That £250 is staying firmly in my back pocket mate. My crack team of mechanics will help me get this fitted after the rods

AWD will always tax a clutch more than a FWD variant... more traction on our quattros ;P

Ive got a Helix cerametallic paddle along with their smf and uprated cover plate. The pedal is heavier, and the bite is a lot more brutal than standard, and it chatters when idling (not always but most of the time).

But it will handle the power and it does make me smile though, i get out of my floppy crap french work car and get into the S3 and it just feels epic.

rrp is over a grand though...

My slave cylinder let go yesterday, and I can't see any record of the clutch being changed any time recently at least, so I figure I'll do the clutch too.

The Awesome kit looks pretty good, so I might give it a whirl too.

I've seen Tuffty's mod thread with the pics of the gearbox coming out. As I'll be fitting it myself, is there anything particularly difficult during the process?

The box is heavy and the bevel box needs to be removed to make it easier to remove/refit... you need a special tool though to undo a bolt that is deep inside the drive flange...

Other than that and dropping the subframe a bit (make sure you support the rack if you remove it) its just all the stuff you need to remove thats takes the time really...

Can't remember if it's a 6 or 8mm (pretty sure its a 6mm) Allen bolt deep inside the centre of the transfer box output on the driver side, so you need a long allen bit or you can get away with a lot of 1/4 inch extensions with the Allen bit on the end or a really long Allen key

I remember when i had to drop the gear box on my TT due to a selector fork failure i didn't remove the transfer case/ bevel.
Had to pull as far back as possible the subframe and secure it.

Managed to get mine back on with bevel on but that was with the engine out of the car with a forklift but did manage by myself but needless to say when I done it with the engine in situ I took the the bevel box off and would certinally do it that way again

Damn! Awesome just sold the last kit they had in stock! Was that you Westy!? :P

What are my best options for a heavy duty sprung hub disc (Sachs maybe) and pressure plate. Thinking of maybe mating them up with a TTV lightweight flywheel?

They said the last one took 8 working days to deliver, so not too bad.

Trouble is for me that my dad needs his ramp in the garage to finish his car. So I need to get a shift on. Pun intended
