Has anyone tried an Upsolute chip?

Has anyone tried one on an S3?

Just been on the website and it looks immpressive as it seems you can turn the programme off or on with a remote - nice touch!

Re: Has anyone tried an Upsolute chip?

Aren't they a more generic sort of chip tuning company like Superchips?

I would stick to a proven VAG tuning company if I were you.

Re: Has anyone tried an Upsolute chip?

With such a good source of VAG tuners, it would be stupid to go elsewhere.

You can't really go wrong with the likes of:

    AmD
    APR
    Jabba
    MTM
    Oettinger
    Revo

Yeah, i know but liked the idea of being able to turn the programme off and on.

I've seen the 'One-click' and think that its a bit expensive for a generic chip.

Its looking more and more like revo. Anyone know any revo dealers in the north with a 4WD rolling road?

I know what you mean, but I guess you get what you pay for. AmD OneClick and Revo SPS1/2/3 would be your best bet.

upsolute seems to be mainly a vag tuning company although do alot of other cars aswell and from the evidence of the mk4 golf forum theres alot of 1.8t users

Re: Has anyone tried an Upsolute chip?

Why woudn't you get it ? Its like badge snobbery. After all, people have paid 500-1000 for a remap, anybody doing one for that kind of money, it can't possibly be any good !!!!!!!!!!!!
There's another thread on here somewhere, where someone slags off Upsolute without knowing a great deal about them or having tried their product. It couln't possibly be Revo and AmD , Jabba etc have better marketing, could it ?

My advice , go for it . Its a bargain. Unlike some others.

Unless it causes engine meltdown. Not so much of a bargain then...?

I personally, would stick to any company that can (and will) dyno the car first to prove all is well...then re-map being mindful of ALL engine parameters - especially the fuel to be used...then prove the gains.

Any company woth their salt won't modify - and therefore reduce safety margine of engines - unless they are convinced the engine is sound to start with.
    It's their reputation at risk.

Also, I'd be considering R&D time...I don't want to be R&Ding a cheap re-map...I expect that to have been done for me, before I pay.

    For me, AmD are obvious...
As are Star Performance for either APR or custom re-maps
    As are Jabbasport...
MTM would also be on the list...

    EDIT:
As has been pointed out, I missed out ABT or Oettinger...I'd also consider these two, as long as the car was RR'd by the UK agent who was fitting.

The generic tuners...and I would class Superchips as generic...I would be less happy with unless done at their HQ...in which case I'd be happy.

REVO is an odd one. Great product...great results...but I am not convinced of the 'laptop in carpark' bit...but to go to a major dealer, or REVO themselves...spot on.

    Others...such as Upsolute...I'd not touch.
No proof of R&D, no proof of suitability of fuel, no RR facility etc...I'd not touch them.
However, if the map was offered at a reputable tuner with a decent RR with logging facilities, than why not...give them a try.

Personally, I like to see EVERYTHING that's done to my car...'I' want to log parameters, read displays, see lambda plots and read real time graphs of power/torque etc...so 'I' can make the call on what 'I' consider to be safe.
That narrows the list down a bit...

AmD...if you speak nicely to Scott!
Star...if you speak nicely to Jim!
    REVO at their base possibly...

You pay your money and take your choice (of risk!)

Re: Has anyone tried an Upsolute chip?

@ EssThree, was your APR original file a pre-written 'generic' one. I know from previous posts you modified it with Jim.
Agree with what you say about the 'laptop in a car park' bit. But it seems a lot just want the extra power/torque thing as cheap as possible.
Upsolute don't claim as much as most, so maybe suggests they stay a bit safe ?
Custom map is the answer though, but you'll not get that in Asdas car park for 290 quid.
Never heard of an Upsolute car going bang yet and a mate does rgular trade with them.

    Differing fuels...
    Inlet temperatures...
    EGT temps...

You made the comment wise ass...show us the data.

    Yes, no and sort of.
It's complicated....and only semi clear...I'm not coing to go into it here either.

Let's just say it was written by APR Europe...just before certain people from that company became REVO.

    Generic, it is not.

    [ QUOTE ]

I know from previous posts you modified it with Jim.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, it's as it came from APR Europe.
Jim has not modified it...and it still runs APRs EMCS interface.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Don't we all...but you have to risk assess the quality vs the cost.
Asking for proof isn't too much...is it?

    [ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Possibly...
There again mybe I could do it with my Laptop for 15.
Wouldn't give you enough confidence to let me loose on your ECU though would it?

    [ QUOTE ]

    [/ QUOTE ]

As I said...other people's cars, other peoples risk.
Personally, I'd prefer to see proof that the map was properly developed and the parameters were safely programmed.
No use adding boost if the limp limit isn't increased and you keep hitting limp.

If suitable proof that the engines health is good, and the product is properly researched and written, than I'd have no objection putting my money into a lesser known product.
But as I said...show me the RR, show me the dyno, and let me log the parameters...and I'll be happy.

But show me a 'laptop in a car park' set-up for under 300 and you can take a hike.

I have no intrinsic problem with ANY smaller comapny...all I ask is that they demonstrate the suitability of the map to UK fuel, and demonstrate the parameters are within what I/they consider to be safe.
This, to me, means a decent dyno and many hours of dyno time/logs...all of which should be available to view.
Show me the info/proof...I have no issue showing them the money!

As for Upsolute...let's see the info.
    Then we can all decide.
