intrument cluster change HELP!!!

Hi, need urgent help on instrument cluster for my A3 1.8t sport 2001

display in middle of cluster is completly blacked out...blank!!!

i have brought a complete cluster from ebay which i was told is compatable with my a3.

just started to read some threads on this topic and now im scared!! do i have to recode the keys etc once changed?

and how hard is this job?

also as the rest of the current intrument cluster works so could it be an option to sell the new unit ive brought and just replace the LCD display unit??!

If you have bought another cluster online I think it would be a case of replacing it to the one in your car and re-coding it to your car using the SKC codes from the cars existing cluster to make the cluster you bought on Ebay to work in your car the software needed to do this process is called VAGTACHO and you can also re-code your keys with this software some garages can do this for you but they are quite rare!
