Well thought it was about time I started a build thread for my car otherwise I'll never get round to making one!
It's an "S" reg Audi A3 8L 1.8 T Sport.
It's already had some money spent on it when I bought it so the spec list so far comprises of:
TT Front brake setup
Cat back Non res Milltek exhaust with discreet tailpipes
Pipercross Panel Filter with fully debaffled airbox
Forge Cold Side DV Relocator kit
Various Silicone breather hoses
De wipered with glass grommet
Facelift rear lights
Uprated Dog bone Diesel Powerflex mount
Full Cream Leather interior as standard in mint condition mmm
Anyway, once I had made the trip all the way down to Essex where the car was located from Just outside Manchester where I live, I managed to break the car on the way home having only owned it for a little over 3 hours!
I was coming over woodhead and ended up managing to snap the camshaft chain, resulting in the camshaft chain tensioner being disintegrated and depositing little bits of nylon into the cylinders which also resulted in bent valves in cylinder 4!
So into the garage the car went and out came a lovely invoice for £900 that I didn't have! Wasn't all bad as it came back with new camshaft chain tensioner, partially rebuilt head and cambelt and water pump done which I had intended to have done anyway!
This is how it looked when I picked it up (pictures courtesy of Ste on here)
As nice as it looked sat on the RS6 reps, I always planned to change these as i'm not a fan due to them being so common.
I had bought a set of 17" Autostrada Monza's before I even bought the car to go on it, however, I soon learnt the hard way that I should have researched my ET's before splashing out on the new rollers for it!
To cut a long story short, I trial fitted one of the rears with the 25mm adapters the wheels came with and I quickly found that I wouldn't be able to run the wheels even if I was to try running a bit more stretch!
This was how it sat on the rear!
It didn't look too bad from this angle however in person it really didn't sit right!
Whilst the car was in the garage being fixed, I had a couple of toys that I'd bought before even getting the car! These consisted of a NewSouth Performance Boost Gauge and CNC Machined air vent gauge holder and a Jetex JR cone filter. Once I got the car back from the garage, I sorted out putting these bits on/in the car.
Boost Gauge, I love how OEM+ it looks!
Night Time illuminated (It does look a lot brighter than the clocks however it's due to my rubbish iPhone and the angle - It is a bit brighter but not as drastic as this)
Jetex filter fitted and a few gay "arty" engine bay pics - yes I know it needs tidying up under there but for now it'll do!
After a few weeks of running the Jetex and messing about under my bonnet one night, my friends noticed that after one of my other mates had so kindly helped by cable tieing down my filter so that it didn't shake about, this had happened! It had also been over-tightened!
Oh well not to worry, the filter's just been superglued to the aluminium extension collar for now and seems to be doing the job just fine lol!
I also gave the car a full wash, clay bar, clean, super resin polish, extra gloss protection and these were the beading results the next day!
Going back to the car being in the garage, well, in order to raise the cash I needed to pay the repair bills, I sold the RS6 reps to my mechanic for his bora and rolled around for a while on his Original Bora 16's! Looked pretty funky rolling around tucking the doughnut tyres!
Cheeky shot of it on the Bora's facing my mate's (then) stock ride height identical 1.8T ha!
And a nice couple of "arty" shot attempt of mine and my mates round at our mates house
Back to the venture for some suitable rollers! I eventually had a stroke of luck as James aka Retrosalad on here sorted a deal with me on a freshly refurbed set of 17's with fresh rubber all round in part ex for my Autostrada's.
So off I set on a nice long road trip all the way down to Exeter with my mate in order to pick up a NOS kit for his Mk4 R32 (favours for brothers eh?) On the way back, stopped off in Tamworth to swap the wheels with James. Proper sound guy with an awesome talent for refurbing and finding rare wheels ha!
Which rollers did I go for then?
A couple of clues...
That's right, you guessed it. I bought the ATS Apollo 11's off him!
Never seen another set personally and really liked the look of them.
Got them all balanced up and bolted on and this is how she's sitting at the moment!
(Bit of picture whoring time - excuse the rubbish quality pics and naff snaps but I haven't had chance to get any decent shots yet with a proper camera!)
Anyway that's how she stands at the moment!
I love the car to bits I must say and even after the mishaps i've already been through with her, i'm looking forward to splashing more money on here as soon as funds allow (once the dreaded christmas time is out the way!)
I've got a fair few plans in mind consisting of...
-Decat/Downpipe, discreet (all hidden behind bumper) FMIC, Stage 2 custom remap, and last but not least a nice juicy KO3 Hybrid custom spec'd or if funds even allow a GT28! for some extra booooooost!
-S3 front subframe/quickrack/wishbones/hubs in order to hopefully allow me to run lower whilst eliminating some of the current issues (catching on kerbs, speedbumps at times etc!) with her sitting even how she is which is nowhere near low enough for me!
Shallow sump and maybe even engine spacers if it'll help!
-And last but at the moment probably most of all importantly, the STANCE!
I wanna start chasing the "perfect" stance for her haha!
So ideally get the wheels spaced out to fill the arches nicely and get here wound down closer to the hard stuff! However that'll come with upgrading/changing to the S3 parts hopefully!
That's all for now folks, pretty hefty initial post but I hope you all enjoy!
Any comments/feedback/criticism whether good or bad is welcome and any tips are especially welcomed with regards to helping me run even lower with ease and also anything to help me overcome/improve any issues that come with winding her down more!
I'm going to use this thread to ask about any of the things I want to do/change with the car so as not to clog up the forum with loads of one question threads which brings me onto my first question!
Does the S3 subframe/wishbones etc sit higher naturally than the stock A3 gear? If so would I be able to install the S3 gear in order to give me better ground clearance thus allowing me to run lower etc?
Anyway, I live just outside Manchester in Stalyvegas baby! (Stalybridge) and also regularly visit Bradford nearly every other weekend to visit the Missus at Uni so if you see me out and about on the road then defo give me a beep and a wave/thumbs up haha!
Peace out and feel the love people!
