Difference between manufacturer's warranty and approved used warranty?

Hi,

I have just had my headlamp washers fixed. The Audi dealership said the problem was a damaged wire.

It was covered as I am just still within the original manufacturer's warranty (although I bought the car used) but the dealer pointed out that the work would not have been covered under the approved used warranty (which I now have for another year).

Apparently the approved used warranty does not cover damage to wires.

This begs the question: what is the difference between the original manufacturers warranty and the approved used warranty? Is the approved used not all it seems?
