just take the lid off n swap the filters.

If you wanna "smooth" just cut the fins off inside the box and drill some holes in the cold side (side by the wing)

i forgot to explain myself abit more, i was onerbout a cone filter or a bmc ect.. because theres a few pipes going to the OE box. ive seen people just replace the flat filter with a cone and stuck the lid back on tho? Anyone know what size bore the trumpet on the inside of the box is? so i can make sure i get the right one to clamp on

No, thats not what people do and it isn't as simple as that.

There is no "trumpet" on the inside of the box, the MAF physically bolts to the air box. The size of the MAF is 70mm, so a 70mm cone filter would fit straight on to the MAF.

Remove the air box and then refit it making notes and taking photo's along the way, then you will know how it all works.

Whats the spec of the car this is going on? I actually saw a better flow and a better result on a dyno with a smoothed and drilled box than a front bumper mounted CAI. If you are doing it for the sound then you don't want to have it back within the air box, because you will have less flow and no more sound.

Thanks for the info, but what do I do with the vacume pipes when I fit the cone filter?

There are no vacuum pipes to worry about.

When you buy an induction kit such as a BMC etc is all the wrong side of the MAF to worry about anything else. The kit will have all the bits you need to make it fit and some instructions. It'll have all the brackets etc that you need to hold everything where it needs to go.

Is there a certain type you're after?

I know someone with a viper that is the right size to fit? But what do I do with the pipes that are connected to the original box?

    Pipes?

get a picture so we know what you're looking at.

The only thing attached to the airbox is a couple of wires with plugs to the (i think) ignition amp is it?. Just take it out the airbox and bolt it to the shock tower in the engine bay. Thats what I did with mine when I ran my induction kit, it came with a little bracket to bold it on to.

There's a picture on the smoothing guide. It looks like the plastic tube on any vacume. Kind of like a tunnel? Left side of the airbox

i just put a small filter on it like one people put on the oil catch can.
Just make sure you get the correct size, or tie it up out the way

That corrugated plastic hose goes to the SAI unit if I remember correctly.

Most people that install a cone filter stick a miniature filter on that hose and tie it out of the way - or you could look at getting the SAI removed completely including the mass of hoses and use a block off plate (Forge do one) that is bolted to the head.
