    S3 buying help

    Hi guys, I'm Hoping to buy an s3 in the next week or so. I've seen a few now and most seem to be well looked after (100x better then most TTs I looked at).

    A few are running average miles for the year (150k ish). I'm just wondering what peoples thoughts are on buying at this kind of mileage? The ones I'm looking at have full dealer or specialist service history but don't want to buy if they are pruned to failure at this mileage.

    i wouldn't, but that's me, if it;s been looked after and there are a lot of invoices for changed parts then go for it, but, be warned if it has the original turbo on it and it has not been refurbished at some point it could well be one of the expensive components to replace.

    at that age unless already done, you have to expect to change parts that are not mentioned in the service schedule like relays and modules etc

    things that should have been changed that don't often get done are the suspension components (mounts, bushes, springs, shocks) - if you buy one with original suspension it will be shagged and will raise up and through you back when you accelerate hard.

    like any other car, look for cam-belt changes and make sure ones not due

    and if you walk away with a crap car, you could end up paying £1000+ within 3 months to get it back on the road

    Im on the fence with this one as id usually recomend buying the higher milaged ones, the low milaged ones are usually coming upto the stage where its gonna need alot of replacements so they get sold on for other owner to deal with. Imo it can go either way as you should check a car regardless of milage, do a AA check on it where they go survey the car! I think its about £150(dont quote me tho) but id rather waste 150 knowing i walked away from a lemon that would of cost you alot more. Obviousley i didnt do this on my £1800 woppa but i would if spending over £5k. Had a mate that wasted nearly 7k on a low milaged cupra r that he paid £4500 for the actual car and the rest replacing parts.

    I wouldn't have bought a high miler in the past, but I purchased a 150k miler last year, as it had a full folder full of receipts for servicing and maintenance, plus when I drove it, it pulled like a train! Sold the same car to another member on here after 12 months, and the most confidant thing I was sure about the car was it's engine!!

    Theres nothing wrong with high milers, just do your homework and pay what its worth, considering what it has, or had not done, there 10 year old now for gods sake, buy one for 3k expect to put 2k into it...buy one for 5k it should be ok? but who knows...
    The engines are very strong and will cope with high miles a breeze if serviced properly.

    I second this! Aslong as the car has been looked after then i see no problem with it! I bought that car and its in great condition! Its only off the road because there was a few things i needed to do to it and wanted to do. If i needed to id put it back up but i want to care for the car as its been cared for before so im taking my time. If you see signs of people neglecting the car then move on. They are fast cars but they're also comfy cars and nice to sit in which is more an excuse to look after it.

    Thanks. The one I'm looking after has a comprehensive history with lots of receipts but not sure if anything has been done with the turbo or not. I'm finding that most I am viewing are due a cam belt - people seem to forget it's 70k or five years but there you go.

    i have 1999 s3 only done 46,000 miles fully audi service history verified! bought it at 35000 2 years ago. i replaced cambelt soon as i got it. i service it every 6 months. lovely car.its luck more that anythinking when buying cars.yes it can having all the services and repairs but any component can go at any time.electricaly specially.

    I suppose the one thing with a high miler is it's pretty unlikely to have been clocked
