Just took my S3 up to Cardiff Audi to book it in for a full service. Was quoted £378.22 for a full service + Replacing the Haldex coupling filter £136.83!!!! plus there labour rates and VAT and they've quoted me £594!!!! Does that seem even remotley reasonable for a full service even from a stealer? Has anyones past experience taking there car to Audi for a full service ever totalled that much?

Thats really pricey.

Audi Edinburgh quoted me £180 for a haldex filter and oil change.

Local VAG specialist was £50, although I had this done along with a fair bit of work. (Genuine VAG stuff)

Dont go to a dealer mate, they will rape you. Find a decent VAG specialist to do it as they will be a lot cheaper. These cars are too old to care about getting the dealers to service them juts for the Audi stamp in the book. I've started doing my own services now due to the costs people are charging.

Depending on how handy you are with a spanner etc i would do it yourslef if possible as all except the Haldex stuff can be done with normal tools etc. Plus you get the satisfaction that A) its been done right B) No corners have been cut.

Haldex does require specific tools so i think when i get mine serviced i will get it done at a local VAG specialist.

As said above an Audi stamp in the service book isnt worth £300 more

Special tool can be had for £15 on eBay, I have one and it's saved me loads of cash. You'll also need the engine oil filter tool which is about £5 from most Auto factors. I also have a sparkplug socket, the rest needed is all basic tools.

I had mine done by Audi last week, Engine Oil/Filter Change, Brake Fluid change and Haldex Oil/Filter change = £181, but I did supply my own Engine Oil so add £40 for that. The invoice actually showed £12 labour for the oil service.
The full service will include changing things like air filter, pollen filter, maybe spark plugs, anyone can change these items. I ask for an oil change, not a service, then whilst the car is in I ask them to put an air filter, pollen filter and spark plugs in the boot for me which I fit myself. Air Filter is about £6, Pollen is a bit more, and spark plugs are actually best brought off eBay for about £20 (do a search on here for the correct plugs to get). Its all negotiable, ask what you're getting for that money, phone an independent to get a better quote then go back to Audi and explain exactly what work you want doing, you don't need to be paying them to top up your washer fluid etc!

Cheers guys, I dont want to cut corners with maintenance but am I **** paying £594 for a service. Just get my usual mechanic to do the service then.
