in all fairness what you say is true, my mates a3ts is just as quick as my s3 but in the twistys he has no chance, they are planted. he has out drove me many times in other cars, your nan could drive one fast!

Just to give this argument some balance, seeing as the Slayer himself has left the building.....

I drove Jardo's S3 last week, and I agree, it was fantastic. it was also incredibly easy to drive fast with no drama

It was still a relief to get back in the track car though, and ultimately, the FWD is still my preference for all out driving enjoyment.

Around the twisty roads, the S3 still wouldn't have a chance in hell, despite identical power figures. Weight and agility still wins.

For a daily drive though, it's a fantastic motor, and I am jealous that he gets to bomb around in this and I'm in a fiesta with a bodykit

It's good. It's really good. But it's not as fun, and with the right setup on a FWD something faster, and more economical could certainly be had. It is boring.

Given the 25mpg average, and the 24,000 miles a year I do an A3 would certainly be a better daily driver come racetoy.

I'm not complaining, for a moron like me who doesn't understand how to balance a FWD car and just puts their foot down when they want to go fast it is great. But it's certainly not life changing.

Anyway, enough S3 bashing. I own one now haha.

What a day!!!

I have earned this...

So I have been getting very concerned about my fuel consumption, 28mpg just isn't cutting it. I do 80 miles a day to work and back, six days a week.

80x6 = 480 a week. x 52= 24,960 a year just in commuting. 2080 miles a month.

2080/28mpg is 74 gallons. X 4.5 to the gallon, is 334 litres. X1.4 for a Power is £468 a month in fuel. Sodding ludicrous!

So I have spent the day experimenting. And win the cruise control at 62mph, if I add an extra half an hour onto my work commute down the M3 I can average...

£160 a month fuel saving, for three hours of my time. That's almost as much as I get paid for a days work! So I'm very happy with that, the MPG is very good for what it is. That said, I am a very good Eco driver.

So, boring stuff out the way. Today is my first day off since getting the S, and it's about time I put my mark on it. Or more, got somebody else's off of it.

So, I iron-x'd it. Clayed it. Machine polished it with fast cut. Machine polished it with Autoglym intensive. Hand waxed it with Dark Angel and then sealed it.

Whoop.

This took a lot longer than I wanted it to.

But it was getting there.

One side at a time.

Eventually it started to look deep and blue, like minge should.

Used up the last of the pad polishing the wheel faces.

This was a fantastic idea.

Then I decided, "do you know what has no place in 2014's modern society? ****ing purple window tints. That's what!"

This was a hugely costly, time consuming and idiotic error.

What a pain in the ****.

In the end I got my steamer out the hair dryer just wasn't doing it.

Then we were on a roll...no pun intended.

Film was off, shame about the glue...

So in the back I go with white spirit and a Stanley blade. Good job I don't really like the seats...

Luckily the back window came off easy enough, not...

Then a I hoovered it, steam cleaned it steamed the seats and dried them with the heat gun to remove any sagging, dyed the carpets, stained the dash and sealed it all up.

Then I shaved the seats, which was fun.

Made a huge difference!

So I took some pictures.

Now, I'm ****ing knackered!

I'm going to paint them a really dark satin grey. It'll look a million times better!

I do believe it yes. I have done 96 miles since yesterday and the gauge is still above full.

Yes I will be on track for ADI, if I beat you this time I guess we will just have I accept I am a better driver?

Why don't we swap cars for the afternoon session, if I bin it or blow it up you can have mine.

Nice work Jardo... best interior obvs but an **** to keep clean... intrigued with the steam clean approach... alcantara is usually a knobber if you get it too moist.... my passenger seat is clean but drivers side needs something, I am just too scared to try anything lol

Need to get some more Megs APC... that stuff is the bomb!... turned the wifes POS freelander from something that looked like it was dragged from the bottom of a lake to pretty much showroom condition with that stuff but it was on cloth seats...

What did you use to steam them with?

I have got a clothes steamer, my mums always owned clothes shops so we have them at home.

It's what I use to remove the tints in the end.

I sprayed the seats with a mild fabric cleaner, steamed them and then put my heat gun over them to shrink the alcantara back down. Worked a treat!

I often average 40mpg + in my car and people used to say it was almost impossible. 500 to a tank is possible, anyway! It looks really smart!

When Nick and a I went out last Sunday we averaged 14mpg. We weren't really trying either.

Or similar.

So to clean the alcantara I sprayed the seats down with Heaven for Leather, and brushed them up to create a foam with a detailing brush.

Then I lightly hoovered them and wiped them down with a clean cloth.

Then steamed them and dried them off with the heat gun on its lowest setting about 5 inches away.

The alcantara shrunk, and got rid of most of the sagging.

Picked up an S4 steering wheel and a new S3 wheel badge on eBay.

Currently watching a set of 15mm spacers.

Waiting for Gopal to sort his new exhaust do I can have his miltek.

Done 1800 miles in it over the last 12 days. Averaged 38.4MPG.

Happy with that

I have allowed myself one boost per journey, seems to work well. Thank god for cruise control!

It hasn't been over 60 this week for more than 10 seconds.

I gave it a little blip yesterday, long enough to change the DIS to average rather than current, saw it had dropped 2MPG then slowed to 50 to compensate.

I quite like being in it, it feels homely. So I don't mind just cruising with the traffic.

Worth noting as well that I do 25k a year average.

Just 15mpg saving, and taking it slow gives me an extra £250 a month to spend on the car out of my budgeted fuel bill.

£4655 a year in fuel as it stands, at 23mph I would be spending £3050 a year more on fuel.

And servicing it every 6k if I was doing harder driving would give me 5 services a year, I am happy to eek that out to 8K if I am taking it easy on the motorway which is only 3 services, there's another £200.
