Mapping out the MAF sensor?

I've heard quite a few people in the states have done this with their 1.8T's. They somehow map out their MAF sensors whilst running standard ecu's. I know of a mapper here who is able to do this aswell.

Anyone heard about this or know what the deal is??

Not personally heard of it done on a bosch ECU but standalone yeah... the Mk2 Golf I have been working on at Bill's is MAF less as is his race car... not surprised the yanks are at it though and tbh not sure there is any advantage unless going for big power... certainly not worth the effort on a daily driver as I suspect the drivability would suffer...

Why?

Other than going very big power where MAF's are max'd out and largest RS4 one is not possible to fit....
