Roof rail removal

Just a quick question, how do you remove the plastic roof rack rails? The paint work on my roof is really poor so considering putting some anthracite viynl on, would also do the door pillars and wingmirror covers - just recently painted my alloys in anthracite! i have a aluminium silver 1.8t a3 - do you think the colours would look ok together?

Yea they are but my car is 1998 so outside of the warranty window!
