Hi,

I have a problem that the ABS engages whenever i'm pulling away from stationery. There is a grinding sounds and I have to accelerate to overcome it.

It only happens when I have come to a complete stop.

My local specialist thought it may be an ABS Speed sensor as there was a fault showing, this is replaced but it didn't go away.

I have just bought new tyres as the fronts were slightly more worn than the rears but this hasn't solved it.

My garage said he can send ABS Unit away to be tested but will cost £180.

I know the A3's have something that stops it skidding at low speed - could this be faulty and could it be disconnected?

I am now driving without the ABS fuse which has solved the problem (but do not like having no ABS!!!)

Any thoughts would help.

Thanks

It could be the wiring leading to the speed sensor, I had this problem.

Thanks for your response - would that show as a fault though as they said all faults had been cleared. For you, did it only cause issues when pulling away from rest?

Willing to try anything that will help!

Nah mine just did it all the time, turning, braking, the brakes stank after he easiest of drives.

It was caused when the brakes were first changed for Brembos, wires were squashed and then accidentally cut when trying to repair.

It might help if you could post the exact fault code.

Cheers,

This is something else and must be related to Anti Skid thing the car has installed for low speed. There are no error codes and it only occurs when pulling away.

Thanks for your help anyway.

This sounds like a very similar problem I'm currently having with my S3 at the moment. (also not to confident with no ABS!)

Mine originally started every now and again, going round corners and after accelerating fast- but this is now permanently on every time I start her up... I get the 3 bleeps and a huge (!) symbo on my displayl! Dane....Did you manage to sort it yourself? Or can you recommend a place? Everywhere wants around £500 for a replacement ABS unit and Pump + my car for 5 days :(

Tuffty sorted my wiring out at Bill's, he essentially just did an epic re-loom

I knew 90% what my problem was though

It might not be the wiring but a simple change of wheel speed sensor could fix it. I had a problem where my ABS would engage when below 5mph. It was caused by a Euro Car Parts sensor that had been on the car for 3 months! I had no fault codes but could see that the readings weren't right when I checked it with VCDS.

You need to get your car scanned to find out what sensor is at fault then I'd try a new genuine VAG sensor to see if it fixes the problem.
