    Question What does your boost gauge read on idle? Think i got a leak...

    Hi guys, in regards to my last topic i thought i'd do another for this and it maybe useful for others to know. I'm on a stage 1 map and on idle my liquid gauge on boost gauge shows -13.6. Apparently this figure should be on -20 or near that? Can somebody please tell me as i've heard this indicates i have a boost leak?

    I think mine sits around -1 bar which is about the same as yours.

    That's -14.5. Apparently it should be near the -20 mark??

    I heard that aswell but i have been done lots of boost checks on my system and can never find any leaks.

    mine sits at -20 then when i got for a drive etc and stop its like -25. dunno if its a dodgey gauge or if thats the way it should be.

    Mines sits at -20 on idle and around -25 if i take my foot off the pedal whilst driving.

    What's peak boost like?? I remember when mine had a split vac line (big hole) under the manifold and my vacuum was reading around -10/-12 but it wouldn't boost that high either

    how does liqui measure manifold vacuum when it is'nt fed from the inlet manifiold??

    I'm on a stage 1 map and on idle my liquid gauge on boost gauge shows -13.6
    unless I read it wrong of course which is very possible

    map sensor cannot see vacuum on 1.8t as its not in the inlet manifold, only before.
    I see 8-9psi on a lot of cars... on the dyno's logger. Less on cam'd cars

    Audi A3 8L 1.8T breaking.
    front bumper, impact bar, slam panel, full engine and loom sold.

    Mine sits on -20 had a Boost leak on one of my intercooler pipes wich made it sit at about -18 fixed and now bang on -20
    350bhp & 316ftlb BBT new k16 7+7 blade hybrid turbo, Welly cooler, jetex filter, relentless ported v3 manifold 3" downpipe & de-cat, liquid gauge, r32 rear arb, AGU ported and polished Head, 550cc injectors, kw v2 Coilovers, s3dave tie bars & heat sheild, milltek cat back, I.E forged rods, brembos, inline fuel pump, v3 badger 5 tip, devils own WMI kit, AGU pistons, rear grooved discs & brembo pads, ds2500 pads & EBC ultimax disc, stack boost gauge

    My stack gauge shows 0.6 bar which is bang on what Bill says at 8-9psi.
    Audi S3 1.9 GT30....

    Turning aircon on and off will affect vacuum at idle (raises a little when on) and the reason it reads higher when you let off the throttle on the move is due to the throttle flap closing completely creating a higher vacuum... you will also notice you instant MPG display dissappear as the injectors get turned off under those conditions to save fuel...

    UPDATE:

    I found a boost leak! It's on 1 of the ancillary hoses off the charge pipe, it's the one which goes to the dv. There's a slit in the pipe where the jubilee clip is, it looks like the clip has cut a slit into it. I've got silicone ones on the way!

    So should i be reading higher than -13.6 or am i okay and being paranoid?

    -20 here on idle and has been on every turbod car ive had.... no electrics on btw

    Grrrr the hunt for more leaks is still on then!

    Ancillary hoses off charge pipe are now okay as i changed them but that didn't make a difference to my idle number.
    FPR hose is okay
    DV vacuum hose is okay
    Breather pipe to hockey puck and also breather hoses under inlet mani are okay

    What else can i check without the aid of a boost leak test?

    - 20 here but i get a different reading on cold start or when the air con is on
    Audi A3 T sport (8l) AUM 2001..... Stage 1 Remap , Bailey DV30 , HID Headlights , LED Sidelights/Footwells , Catch Can , N249 Bypass , Tinted Windows .....
