Exclamation Will A Stage 1 Map......

I'm thinking about having a stage 1 map put on my a3 but what's putting me off is the thought of it putting more strain on the other parts of the car causing them to fail.

Is this a case with a stage 1 or is it the stage 2...etc that would do this?

I'm sure it cant do the clutch much good.....lol

I'm afraid this is one of the downfalls of tuning any car to any degree. It will highlight weaknesses.

Clutches commonly start to slip. Youl never know till its done where these weakneses will be, unless of course components have been changed recently.

Off the top of my head some weaknesses may be, clutch, old weak coilpacks, spark plugs??, boost pipes, dump valve (hence 007p recommended strongly by many), fueling sysyem. Temps increase, pressures increase, but if you service it regularly and have uprated any known weak parts then you might have no probs!

    X2

My car lasted 1 1/2 years on a stage 2 map before the clutch started to slip but bearing in mind this was at 95000 miles on the original clutch and apparently 300ft/lb torque
    Power & Torque 335bhp 285ftlb

How long parts last can be subjective at best... Take Dane for example... he had a new clutch several months ago and lunched it while going up the drag strip at the Inters... I had been driving around for over a year on a std clutch that had done 30,000 miles with no probs on my BT conversion...

Coil packs are a favourite along with all the usual split pipes and stuff that will happen regardless on a 1.8t of the age of ours...

K03s turbo's (which is what you should have in yours) are pretty good anyway and can net around 220bhp (230 in some cases and with the right mods)... K03's of any type will wear out over time but a remap on yours will bring a massive smile to your face...

I wouldn't worry too much mate,

if your clutch is near the end of it's life then a remap could highlight this and cause it to slip, but it's not too tough to change it, and it's VERY cheap to upgrade it whilst you're at it.

I've been running a stage 2 ko3S for over 50 000 miles on one of my A3's and it's fine. a stage 1 map isn't going to destroy the turbo at all, and with the right additions prior to the map you can see 220bhp and still remain 100% reliable

my a3 had done over 100k miles when i had mine remapped!! nick at r-tech was gobsmacked that nothing at all was wrong with it after the map!
its still on the original clutch, but i have looked after her with servicable parts etc!
10k miles later and still no hiccups what so ever!! depending on where you go, a stage 1 wont push everything right to the limits and will keep things in the safe limits, but will still feel night and day over stock!

And on the other hand I had mine remapped last week and have problems already, think it's only a leaky pipe,

But without a doubt you will love the extra power after the remap,

Thanks for all the replies everyone, you've given me a few things to think about

    the cars not long had...

The cam belt done, all coil packs replaced, bailey dv30 DV fitted , Jetex filter fitted, New MAF, new thermostat / temp sensor.

I'm planning on doing the n249 bypass but what boost pipes are you talking about?

TBH... Money is a bit tight at the moment (isn't it for everyone ) so could do without having to change the clutch

And the thought of the turbo packing up s*its the life out of me.....LOL

On top of all that , the cars done over 100k.

Without meaning to sound like a cock here, that's not strange at all, if anything, it's low!

My AGU before it's first ever map was 158 standard on a dyno dynamics roller, this was at 130k.

My AUM when standard at 96k was 156 at Rtech. Most make 155+ regardless of mileage!

Not that there's anything wrong with 150 stock at all it's just that they tend to be higher than the quoted figures.

Is it the damage caused my thrashing the car after a remap or is it just the extra power that f*cks things up?

Also what boost pipes are you all saying will go (i know its a stupid question....lol) ?
