Dash warning symbol?

I have a 2001 A3 1.8T sport and when I start up when driving everything seems fine but soon as I apply the brakes a warning symbol on the dash appears, Its a round circle in side brackets with what looks like a W within it, im not sure as the pixels in the HUD are faded, would upload a picturebut this daft site wont let me lol, any ideas?

sounds like the brake warning light. get it checked may just be worn pads could be worse
