    coilpacks blowing after remap on 2001 S3:/

    Hi, just wondered if theres any way to prevent this, i got remapped last week by Revo and did about 30 miles then coilpack 2 went. so got a new 1 and its lasted about 150miles and one of them has gone again, not sure which, was just goin to replace all 4 and see what happend. any advice appreciated.

    Once one goes, it puts extra strain on the other coil packs. You should change them all.

    Check with Audi though as there is a recall on all petrol Audis. You may get your coil packs changed free of charge.

    sorry to hijack your thread s3jrh, but Brendan apart from having a petrol audi, do you know what else you need to qualify for the recall?? FSH?etc

    No that shouldn't be necessary. All that you will need to make sure is that the coil packs are still genuine Audi ones. If they are aftermarket they will not replace them.

    Your car is not on the recall list, you have bolt down coils....

    my car does qualify for the replacement to be done by audi but i live in shetland and the closest audi dealer is in aberdeen so i would have to go on the boat and return with a car is over £200 so ive just ordered a set off awsome gti. hope thy dont go again:/

    If coil packs are going I would also check your plug gap... advisable to go to a 0.7mm gap with a remap... had a Leon in once that had 1mm gaps!!! needless to say it nuked a coil pack or two on the dyno!!...

    Yea somone mentioned gapping the plugs...altho they said make the gap bigger:/ but didnt no the size! Ill try it at 0.7! Cheers!

    Bigger??!!??... that would be a big NO... larger gap makes the coil packs work harder and shorten thier life plus increase boost/cylinder pressures from the remap would blow the spark out...

    Std gap is 0.8mm, remapped go for 0.7mm
