Hopefully i shall be getting all the materials this week
Decided im going for the Carbon fibre wrap on the bonnet, roof, spoiler and trims. The rest of the car matt white.
Its going to take a while as my brother has agreed to do the labour for free (cant complain)
He normally does body work, but has seen how this wrap is applied, said it was fairly easy. Anything i should look out for?
Hi jay, do you know what make of vinyl you'v been quoted on, you'd expect to pay from around £1100 on an a3 and prices will go up dependent on vinyl finish. here's a few pointers so you dont get stung.
It must be a premium cast vinyl, not a calendered vinyl.
if your bro has never installed it before ensure you get a vinyl with airflow, also know as bubble free.
make sure you order enough as colours can change slightly from batch to batch when casted in the plant
when your bro installs it ensure you source the tech spec of the vinyl used For pre/post heating instuctions and follow it to the letter or it will end up on the floor in months to come. 1 Degree under on post heating and it will fail!!
If you can, sorce either 3M, Avery as a first choice. there are many people out there selling on the fact they supply/ install 3M or Avery, if it aint on the backing paper it aint what your paying for. A lot are now using a product made my KPMF however the vinyl has a poor airflow capability and dose not have a guide to post heating that's why most won't use it. but there are people i could name selling it as a better product a ripping customers off as its a third of the price of 3M and the like.
Also get a proper vinyl craft knife and plenty of blades, you will probably use around10 blades to cut an A3 in ( two cuts...bin it). dont use any other kinda knife ie stanley or it'll look like you'v cut it in with your teeth..
As for KFC fingers, that wont happen as you have an over laminate on the vinyl, be it matte/ satin or gloss, this only applies to matte/satin paintwork. Most top end vinyl's are fuel repellent, cheap vinyl's are not and will look like a dogs ****** up your car once its bedded in....... Beware !!
Any prob's dude give me a shout.... always here to help
